Old Norse and Old English were fairly mutually intelligible. They both derived from proto-Germanic, and Old English by definition is before Norman-French pollution, so they had not deviated that far apart. This vid has 2 guys conversing in the 2 languages: https://youtu.be/eTqI6P6iwbE
