It may be after some kind of event or something. I've spent several years in NYC subways and that amount of trash is definitely not the norm.

Why do people consider them torture? I've watched a few of them and found them charming.
It's nice to see happy stuff once in a while. I get tired of violence and anger. Plenty of that in real life.
