It's just funny from a psychology perspective. It would be funny regardless of the issue -- whether it was gay rights, abortion, gun rights, religion, or whatever.

The reason I like this is because the Marine demonstrates that he understands how God works, while the professor clearly does not. :)

And there's the fact that the students probably paid a lot of money to take that class from him, and wasting 15 minutes of their time just to be a prick is understandably maddening.
