It didn't used to be a social construct, currency used to be backed by things with inherent value.

Really? Because I see one man carrying his own umbrella while his wife smiles in the sun, and another man who walks ahead of his wife while having another man carry an umbrella to keep her dry.

Love this post!!
Ditto for me on the info part. My specialties are finance and economics in general, and American history and politics specifically. My educational background is in finance, Econ, political science with a focus in America history, and then economics/econometrics and statistics. I also have a fair amount of free time that I'd love to make productive.

Alright thanks for clearing that up. FWIW I disagree with most of our leaders as well. Also, as a rule, I try not to let people deter me from being myself. Lastly, I very much appreciate your level headed responses and general politeness, the ability to disagree without being disagreeable is becoming a lost art!

Well I'll own the absurdity then, and despite how it may sound, I've been told that my home isn't obnoxiously patriotic lol. I'm a little confused at the last part, what are you disagreeing with?

Fair enough, and that's your prerogative. Considering that 13 of the 15 decorative items in my apartment are America themed, I probably fall under the category of taking patriotism to an absurd level.

So do you not have anything in particular that you go crazy over? I'm not trying to back you into a corner, I'm legitimately curious.

The picture of Obama with the bald eagle is political gold, if it were real I should be able to google Obama with bald eagle and find news stories about it, like I can with the picture of the bald eagle attacking Trump.

In Texas, you can't bring a gun into an establishment licensed to sell liquor when that business derives 51 percent or more of its income from liquor sales... It's also illegal to conceal carry while intoxicated.

There are few things that unify people across the political spectrum, and displays of patriotism are one of them. Why is it ok to go crazy over musicians, sports teams, movie franchises, dress up and LARP or cosplay or any number of other things, but it's "absurd" and "ridiculous" to show the same kind of passion for our country?

Let’s talk about the national bird and how the Obama administration revised a federal rule allowing wind energy companies to operate high-speed turbines even if it means killing or injuring bald and golden eagles. Companies can now kill or injure up to 4,200 bald eagles a year (4 times the previous limit) without penalty.

And the Obama picture with the eagle is probably fake, at least I haven’t found the original source yet.

That’s fallacious logic. To arrive at that conclusion you either need to make one of the following arguments. “If a guy has a small X, then he talks about his car and salary on the first date. The guy talked about his car and salary on the first date; therefore he has a small X. Or, “If a guy talks about his car and salary on the first date, then he has a small X. The guy didn’t talk about his car and salary on the first date; therefore he doesn’t have a small X." Both of those arguments are formal logical fallacies.

Which everyone that eats meat, or wears leather is complicit in. What makes this animal special? Why doesn't the company terminate contracts with all people that eat meat, they may not pull the trigger, but they're basically killing animals too.

We put ourselves above the animals because we exercise dominion over them, we're inarguably the dominant species on the planet.

You're not being that. I don't think I get the point you're making about squirrels though.

We both know there are worse things that could be said when an animal dies. Further, it is just an animal. That oryx was not a pet, didn't live in a zoo, and it wasn't domesticated, it was a wild animal.
