Yeah and there's also a point where helping a person like that is mistaken kindness. They need to learn to stand on their own. Doing whats best for them may be bringing it to their attention and helping them see a better way rather than continually bailing them out. I feel like that's in line with the golden rule.

I dont. There are some ppl who are somehow always in trouble and always ready to take any help they can get without much interest in giving back. I'm all for helping ppl but I also think you should consider the person you'd be helping and if they have a reputation for being users. It could come back to bite you.

My mom pulled a similar thing. When we'd get in the car and I'd ask "where are we going?" She'd say "buffalo raceway." I didn't know what that was but it sounded awesome....until we just ended up at the grocery store. Took me too long to realize we were never going to see a buffalo race.
