The Ground You're Standing On Might Not Be Worth Defending [Mike Rowe on Cancel Culture] 34 comments

@iccarus he actually does a couple episodes of dirty jobs in Australia too. One of them is about jade mining (which is one of the few jobs he actually got nervous about).
.
The other was supposed to be meeting up with some Australian natives to fetch some wood to make a didgeridoo, but his guide had the attention span of a magpie at a button factory, and ended up taking them sting-ray fishing, sand-bread baking, and various other shenanigans as well.
.
Honestly the second one is one of my favourite episodes

Mike Rowe is most famous for being the host of the TV series "Dirty Jobs" - which features him attempting to take part in, and document, some of the dirtiest jobs in America. From things you'd expect like sewage workers, to things you've likely never heard of like working at a bone black factory, to digging thousands of square feet under the earth to build giant wine cellars. Honestly an interesting show.
.
He's also written a few books, and has narrated (and occasionally appeared on) a few other shows including "Deadliest Catch," and "how the universe works" (<- HTUW being the show someone was trying to get him fired from)

Too short, not enough words: you can read his full exchange with this weird person who tried to get him fired here: https://m.imgur.com/gallery/0jPFq

Provides more context, and quite a few more paragraphs

Too long, don't want to read:
.
"You've labelled me some trigger words and provided no proof that I am those things. You want to use these words to destroy my career - NOT because I'm bad or otherwise unqualified for my job, but because your ego is so fragile you can't comprehend allowing any viewpoint that isn't your own to exist.
.
Sounds pretty crazy, don't you think?
.
Maybe, before trying to destroy someone while claiming you're "stunning and brave," you should consider whether your actions are justified and/or reasonable.
.
Or just stop projecting on other people and get your head out of your ass. Your call."

@cryoenthusiast that too. If it were up to Anita sarkeesian escapism would NOT exist.
.
All video games would be political platforms - and burn to the ground the life of anyone who does not take her side.
.
It's fucking sad. The first time I heard about gamer gate was years ago and when I looked into it the media was like "this movement is men hating women in video games." And I rolled my eyes and moved on because I believed them. Didn't look into it fully until a year or two ago. And I can't believe how much they misrepresented the entire movement.
.
Doesn't have a damn thing with not wanting women in games. It was entirely about freedom of expression. And not having what they could and could not do be dictated by sadistic control-freak weirdos.

This is why she brings up Gamer Gate. Anita is a firm believe that women are strong, powerful victims. Mentioning gamer gate is a dog whistle of sorts - it lets people know that "see? EA didn't take MY side during that whole debacle. They took NO SIDE at all - which is the WRONG side. AND they're not supporting a charity focused on women in video games. Almost like they don't support women at all. Would be a shame if a bunch of my followers started harassing them and painting them as misogynists now."
.
Nevermind the fact that her "charity" largely focuses on podcasts, whereas the charities EA actually donated to were:
.
HeForShe - charity which seems to involve trying to get men to stand up for womens' rights in countries like Pakistan etc
.
Pacer - which focuses on children with disablilities
.
Ditch the label - which works on supporting youth with mental health issues, as well as helping to prevent and deal with bullying

She's a "critic" feminist who hates free speech and men, and works endlessly to promote cancel culture.
.
She hates women being portrayed in any manner that's not synonymous with Abby from the last of us. Straight white men are the devil incarnate and should never be allowed to do more than lick her boots.
.
She's helped contribute to the destruction of several careers. One of her notable affiliates is Zoe Quinn, who used twitter to drive a man to suicide. Which is notable because Anita and her circle are all often fully supportive of this brand of behaviour.
.
She makes a career telling people how horrible games she's never played - and WILL never play - are.

My opinion of her is notably biased because I've seen her work in the last year and I think she's a disgusting piece of trash. So take anything I say with a grain of salt and feel free to research her - but know going in that EVERY opinion you read about this woman will likely be bias.
.
Of all the movements I've seen (I say seen because I was not and am not part of Gamer Gate) I've never encountered one that the mainstream media will work so endlessly hard to make certain only one side is heard - regardless of how deplorable or illogical the tactic of that side may be.

Side note: I'm not letting you derail this into a debate about the mask laws. I don't care how badly you may wish to do so.
.
My original two points had nothing to do with the laws themselves.
.
.
Also my specific mention of trump by name was in response to the other commenter who mentioned trump by name.

What a round-about way of saying "I don't agree with my own point because that's uncomfortable for me."
.
Also the nutshell of your comment summarized:
"People wearing masks are too stupid to understand that not all masks are created equal and adjust their behaviour accordingly, therefore we should lie to the public about this, and then implement laws that prop up those lies."
.
And guess what - those blue masks the covid people were wearing? 200x thinner than most cloth masks I've seen. All they've got is a tiny bit of cotton in them.
.
So we once again end back at:
Either the masks don't work, and the medical staff are going to be sacrificed first - but we want to make sure they can infect as many of the vulnerable as they can along the way. Or the masks DO protect the wearers, and therefore it doesn't matter if everyone is wearing a mask, assuming we provide people who want masks with the right kind. Which apparently are tiny blue pieces of cotton.

I don't understand this level of insanity. People are so insecure in their own existences and thoughts that they can't even stop for a second and go "you know, I hate that guy, but he has a point."
.
Agreeing on one thing does not mean you agree on everything.
.
Even that factory of fucked up torture and horror Japan had running in WWII people managed to realize there was value in some of the research they had done. And by value I don't mean they condoned them doing it... I mean they realized that the results of those horrors could be used in the future to help prevent further death and suffering and destruction.
.
But everyone just grabs their pitchforks, draws a line in the sand, and then pretends that that line is the goddamn grand canyon. Can't be crossed, shouldn't be crossed, and anyone in the middle or on the other side should be pushed to their deaths.

I don't know if this tweet is a continuation of another tweet. But if it IS - guess what? Doesn't matter. The person who made this meme chose not to include that tweet as part of the context. So it doesn't apply.
.
That in mind - there are likely dozens of other tweets Trump's made that would have been far easier to twist to your own agenda, and yet people pick the one that's easily defensible, and CLEARLY not saying what they're implying it does.
.
.
I do not bloody well like Trump, so if people could get their shit together and stop causing me to defend the man from their own psychosis, that would be appreciated.
