Well the show started with an interview with the two kids talking to their dad (Ted). So they pre-recorded the end so the kids wouldn't age out of the next part iirc (though they could easily have just had the camera focus on Ted or made it a joke about how long it had taken to tell the story).

Instead they then had to fuck over a bunch of storylines to fit into the weird mold this pre-recorded ending demanded and it was, at least from what I'd seen of the show and the end, complete cringey shit
