@savage_demmigod true man...cocaine and Molly helps a lot with periods
snowbeast · 4 years ago
If pain is consistently that extreme, she needs to see a doctor and check e.g. for endometriosis or PCOS. Important to get that kind of progressive disorder under control.

I told her about doc..but hers mum is a doc and she said it's intense for some people..

Sometimes period cramps are intense but I think the intensity of this pain has become normalised, not discrediting her mum or anything but if it's so bad she can't move then she should get it checked out. I'm with @creativedragonbaby I find a cold flannel or ice wrapped in a tea-towel works better than heat, also just trying to distract yourself by watching a good movie or mindless tv. As awful as it sounds, exercise also helps, I like swimming so I can stretch out my body.

Pain killers.

There is a reason your family can't be your doctor. She needs to go see someone else and see if being on birth control will help. If it's so bad that it affects her quality of life then telling someone to suck it up is a really crappy thing to tell someone, especially coming from a medical practitioner.

@parisqeen exactly...tho she can't workout,even laying down is painful
blazingfrags · 4 years ago
@laughwendylaugh it does affect the quality of her life...her mom normally gives her meds which works but only for 3-5 hours
snowbeast · 4 years ago
With all respect to her mum's medical degree - is the mum a gynecologist? Disorders of the female reproductive tract have historically been insufficiently researched and poorly diagnosed. Period pains can be horrible, but an expert can check that there is nothing else going on. And if there is, they can prescribe appropriate alleviatory or curative treatment.

I suffer from endometriosis, a chronic condition which many doctors still consider psychosomatic. I have had it for 15+ years and had multiple (successful) treatments to manage pain and prevent the condition worsening. This is one example, all kinds of weird things can go wrong with a woman's giblets.

Just chipping in to say I've read apples can help. Don't know the science behind it (although there was some).

@blazingfrags Then she def needs to get herself a 2nd opinion. At least exhaust all options before declaring that it's something she'll just have to live with.
blazingfrags · 4 years ago
@snowbeast her mum is more of a nurse..but she said her mum's knows about this stuff...tho I too think theres not much credibility
blazingfrags · 4 years ago
@purplepumpkin thanks....I'll tell her to try that.. appreciate it
blazingfrags · 4 years ago
@snowbeast I do really think this us not really normal...but the meds her mum gave to her works for a while so she's continuing that..and tbh I don't like that.. @laughwendylaugh exactly...I too think she should get a second opinion just in case...I don't want her to take any risks

A warm bean bag (via microwave) can help
parisqeen · 4 years ago
I agree with everyone else, second medical opinion is needed but I understand it's hard to convince someone when they believe they're parents are always right. Another simple thing that might help is just massaging her back, rubbing it in slow circles with your palm because even though the pain is in your uterus the rest of your body tends to tense up as well.

Ive had horrible period pain to the point where im paralyzed in bed, birth control helped soooo much i can more than tolerate the pain now, depending on her age, it might be a good option. Also decaf tea helps in a pinch and sitting in the shower, head between knees letting the water hit the back of your neck is very relaxing and helps with the pain, i also used ice packs to numb but at night a warm heatpack helps to sleep. Hope all is better soon!

Oh and like paris queen said excersize helps, slow yoga and stretching helped me through my worst, ive been there shes not alone!
blazingfrags · 4 years ago
@parisqeen true..it's gonna be hard to convince her but considering how much she suffers I think she should...
@infosubstance she's tried birth control and yep it helped, I asked for exercise but at most she can only walk
