@spookykink57 for me, I didn't have "imaginary friends" so much as I had imaginary "ghosts" of my existing friends to keep me company when my friends couldn't be there. I'd say I saw my free time as an opportunity to make a story of my life, and a story needs characters, so I'd add some. I was a writer from a very young age, so that may explain my thought process. It would be kind of "hmm, I'm on a long car ride right now. That's not exciting. What is exciting is if I was playing make-believe with a friend! I'll pick So-and-so. I want to play make-believe that we're pirates, but there needs to be some conflict, so I'll have her want to make-believe that we should be space explorers. Actually, we'd probably come up with a better space explorer story than a pirate story, so I'll have her win the argument." I can't speak for everyone, but that's how I remember myself having imaginary friends.

There are several shows/manga/books/games that involve anthropomorphic personifications of naval vessels (or military hardware in general, including naval vessels), almost exclusively as girls. Breast size may vary, but it's kind of the unwritten law of anime jokes now that everything is "big titty anime girl" because the anime/manga art style is where you're most likely to encounter the most ludicrous examples of comically large breasts.

"'Wouldn't the sentence 'I want to put a hyphen between the words Fish and And and And and Chips in my Fish-And-Chips sign' have been clearer if quotation marks had been placed before Fish, and between Fish and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and Chips, as well as after Chips?' This sentence is much easier to read because the writer placed commas between 'and and' and 'and and' and 'and And' and 'and And' and 'and and' and 'and and' and 'and And' and 'and And' and 'and and' and 'and and and'."

How did you design the algorithm? How did you ensure your tests were accurate? Math isn't just knowing how to perform operations, it's knowing which operations to perform when. And especially in college where things get more theoretical, you don't learn how to do math so much as learning how to use math. Also, memorization is not the only way you should learn, but it does help you avoid reinventing the wheel. Being bad at math doesn't mean school is stupid; rather, being able to make a spreadsheet do your work for you despite being bad at math means that school worked and you just didn't notice.

Well, I mean, it's a pretty weak force field. Look how easily a human hand was able to penetrate it! Unless it's a forcefield specifically designed to prevent energy-based weaponry but allow physical objects access...

It'd be a fun plot to have a character with this power, but changed a bit so they can never return to one they've been to before. Opens up lots of adventures for various audience tastes and also difficult sad goodyes as a bonus for the tragedy lovers.

Single tap instead of multiple taps to say "hey". Also, clear signal instead of a thing that's awkward to try to phrase (it can be hard to put "I want attention" into conversational words). Also, the effort and time investment is part of the gift. Many homemade gifts would be easier to buy at a store but general society places more value on the homemade one because it took more time and effort from the gift giver.

(other guest here) I don't think it's so much being amazed that celebrities are kind than it is that celebrities are more likely than an average person to be a role model for many people, and if you want your message of "hey, be a good person like this guy!" to reach as many people as possible, you focus on people that already have an audience.
Although it may be what you suggested, that we like overturning the notion that power corrupts and makes famous people become jerks.

(Also, yeah, sorry I'm two years late. Guest comments are grouped by IP, and I was in a different state for two years and never tracked this comment back down to see if it had replies. Now I'm back home and can see it. I figure no one will see the reply this late, but hey, the Internet is an archive and I didn't want to leave a question unanswered or a story untold if I was in a position to add to it.)

It was a Code Lyoko fanfiction. I was frustrated by "mistakes" I perceived other fanfictions making, like introducing a new generation of characters or bringing back dead enemies and allies or changing the setting (I've grown and realized that those were good too, I just wasn't their intended audience) and decided to "do it right." It was an original flavor series continuation fic. (Which was fun when the eventual actual Season 5 ended up having some similar plot developments as the ones I'd hinted at.) I only finished a couple episodes and I made a mistake in formatting so the fanfiction was published as a gigantic wall of text with no chapters or even paragraph breaks, and it also needed a significant bit of editing (particularly to have a consistent tense and point of view), so I wouldn't consider it well-written, but I'm still proud of the ideas and feel like the resulting episodes I wrote achieved my goal of feeling like a natural continuation of the series.
Just another day in the street 15 comments

Only lead I could find is a reddit comment suggesting it's in Indianapolis, Indiana. A Google street view search seems to confirm it. There's a fenced-off parking lot instead of that white building, but the buildings behind the white one are the same, the street has the same contours even down to that section of missing grass, and the chapel matches (although that's a common LDS chapel design). The intersection is W Market St and N White River Pkwy W Dr.

A problem similar to inflation. The money will hold its strength internationally because the amount hasn't changed, but businesses in the country may raise the price of goods and services because it's reasonable to expect that a population of millionaires can afford a price hike.
(Or maybe not. My friend's the economist, not me. I'm just guessing that if there were to be a problem, it would be this.)

Exactly. Old timey rich people did it because only old timey rich people could afford it, so it served an additional purpose as a status symbol. Also, as mentioned, they had to pay artists and sit for hours. No instant gratification there. Commissioned portraits and selfies are two entirely different things.
I do however agree with the sentiment that selfies don't need to be demonized or seen as a sign of degeneration in current culture.

For a short while before someone edited it back to "none", under the Australian side of Casualties and Losses it said "dignity." I miss that edit.

Eh, I'll admit that I haven't traveled the world and met every single person, but in my personal experience with the people I've interacted with, the reaction to sex appeal advertising has been mostly negative. I haven't actually heard many opinions on breastfeeding. Although to be fair, I've seen way too many "sexy" obnoxious ads and only once ever seen someone breastfeeding, so that kinda makes sense.

Actually, they kinda can. Most often the smoke tars up the fans and you get overheating problems, but sometimes it'll even mess up other internal electronics. But yeah, if you consider the fans to be the "lungs" of the computer, smoke can give computers "lung damage"

I was expecting some sort of reveal at the end that Captain America had been turned into a zombie at the beginning when he exploded and that while he thought he'd been fighting zombies he'd actually been fighting citizens and S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel.

No, but seriously, he was actually introduced in that and it's canon. But you should never watch it. It's not even "so bad it's good," it's just bad.

I tried to do something where the reader has a second life they're not aware of and has some romantic tension with another character, but that started to fall apart when I tried to write for every possible orientation of the potential audience. So yeah, if anyone wants to write this, pro tip: stick to one hypothetical audience member. Your work might not have the same feel for other people, but a book that's really good to only a few people is better than a book that's mediocre to everyone.

The way it's been explained to me, people think they just write generic formulaic songs. That they do it just because they happen to get paid, not because they have a love of the art. And that somehow makes the music bad. I personally don't care, because the end result is songs I happen to like, and I think that they do actually put in a lot of effort and care in their songs, but hey, who am I to argue with the internet?

I taught kids at a tech camp this summer. Now ALMOST ALL the kids were fantastic human beings and great students, but there were a couple troublemakers and brats in there. One student came up to me at recess once and asked me to speak to another student who was playing basketball. I asked what was wrong (is he making fun of you, did he hit you, etc.) and he replied "no, I just think he's doing better than me so I want you to go talk to him and make him feel bad." I was like, "wait, what?" and he clarified "yeah, I think he's better than me, but I don't want him to think he's better than me, so I want you to go make him feel bad." I had to explain to this 12-year-old kid why asking a teacher to bully another student because you think he's a better basketball player than you is the wrong way to do things.

I made a sword to go with my chainmail as a spur-of-the-moment costume idea (my college has a plasma cutter, so it was only the work of a couple hours to buy some metal, cut a sword shape, and attach a hilt). I can attest to the effectiveness of swords in confidence boosting.

Fun fact: Kepler originally proposed that the moon caused tides through gravity (although he believed it to be a repulsive force instead of an attractive one), but Galileo shot him down, saying "if the moon causes it, why doesn't the sand also move?" and argued that tides were caused by the earth's rotations around its own axis and around the sun syncing up to cause oceans to slosh around and create tides. Because Galileo was a very good debater (and Kepler was unpopular), his theory was the more accepted one until Newton came up with his gravity stuff and proved Kepler right.

You lose a match to win silver, while you win one to win bronze. Also, in non-match sports, bronze means you did so well you got a medal, while silver means you weren't quite gold-tier.
