Typically, though, people are more particular about how to share it out. If you do the typical 8 slices, then you get 16 slices from the 12" and only 8 from the 18". Plus, you get a better crust to body ratio with the 12".

I would have to agree with @unicycle. He does ridicule the things she holds dear. Man of his time or not, that's not how you show love to a person. He just wanted her because she was the best girl in the village and his ego told him he must have the best at all costs. That said, I don't think he went after the beast out of jealousy. I think that was just some sort of trophy hunting thing.
