Okay, I looked up the whole breathing situation for bees, in case anyone else is curious: “Insect Respiratory System
Air enters the respiratory systems of insects through a series of external openings called spiracles. These external openings, which act as muscular valves in some insects, lead to the internal respiratory system, a densely networked array of tubes called tracheae.
To simplify the insect respiratory system, it acts like a sponge. The sponge has small holes that let water into the sponge moistening the sponge. Similarly, the spiracle openings allow air into the interior tracheal system bathing the insect's tissues with oxygen. Carbon dioxide, a metabolic waste, exits the body through the spiracles.”

Books really be like that 8 comments

MADAME BOVARY. That book can die a thousand fiery deaths. I don’t agree with the underlying movement it was supposed to symbolize. It’s a mess of a book on its own thought for 50 million reasons. ONE of those reasons is: it’s a major plot point that she read romance novels in high school, so was disappointed on her wedding night. Which is - a lot to unpack. It gets worse though! Just so much more irritatingly worse! It’s just the MOST annoying. Come to think of it - the ‘othering’ and lack of reasonable motive for the main character may simply be because the male writer has ‘every precious writer syndrome’ and only talks AT or FOR women instead of TO them. This actually makes me feel slightly better. Terrible book, though. Shoot that book straight to hell. I actually burned my paperback copy once I got my exam A.

I think he struggles with that; same deal as the kissing the ring. He doesn’t want the people to kiss his ring, but will let the bishops do it. He probably doesn’t want all that stuff, but that’s what he was given to do the job; it’s meaningful to the Church and so he won’t give it away or refuse to use it.

The black sheep effect 5 comments

Looks like a sheep to me, if you were being serious. Head too small for dog and if dog then leg fur and body fur would be similar thickness. Instead more sheep-like proportions.
Since I didn’t know, from Wikipedia: “In psychology, the black sheep effect refers to the tendency of group members to judge likeable ingroup members more positively and deviant ingroup member more negatively than comparable outgroup members.”

Look, it’s the same as adding to pledge of allegiance “one nation under God” or memorializing local war heroes. It’s not wrong - except....the addition to the anthem was to harden the distinction from Communism, not show love for God or unity. And the putting up of Confederate war statues was pretty much entirely for anxious white people to have something to look at while civilization just. Totally. Crumbled!!!! (sarcasm; also I’m white from Bama so don’t @me. I know my stuff. Also not equating these two examples.)
It matters WHY it’s being done. Just because it’s a neutral or even positive thing, doesn’t mean that there is no bad intent. And if the reason was to be hateful or exclusionary, you can’t belittle or dismiss away a reality you don’t like. WHY matters. Investigating is not wrong, evil, or misinterpreting. Closing your eyes is.

Yes, imagine! So many, many competent people! It would mean a lot more women, though. Whitewashed male- and Euro-centric history class is a hell of a drug. But you, clever person, know from your own experience that competence isn’t limited to heavily white and male groups. So you also know it never was. So you’ve learned to move past this nonsense.

I do want to clarify that people who have messages on their clothes that are meant to signify ‘I have an opinion about your existence’ (like wearing gear that ties an individual to a group or party) ARE using their clothes to communicate. Those clothes were chosen to express an opinion about someone else. It’s unreasonable to say But! Clothes always communicate. No, they don’t. The conflating of literally anything with an action that is 90% male-on-female violence (that’s the best number I’ve heard, anyway) is an attempt to shout everyone else down Stop acting like a two year old, or at least stop doing it so loudly.

@internet Freedom of Speech is freedom from state-enforced silence. There will never be ‘freedom’ from consequences. The goal of a civil society is to deincentivize people escalating into spiraling aggression (verbal or physical) or selfishness (stealing, attacking others, murder, etc). When someone decides they wanna ‘swing their fist’ by spewing violence, the only logical conclusion is that they don’t care about broken noses. Great! Don’t cry when you get a black eye. Either behave or accept that it’s not a stricture the rest of us have to follow either. (That’s why the attempt to conflate this with what someone wears is blindingly stupid, @famousone. It’s not an aggressive act against any one and does not communicate in any way, “I have an opinion about your existence.” Getting dressed and going from here to there is clearly a wholly personal act and will literally never be a reason to ‘deserve’ to be the target of violence. Value-destroying waste of oxygen.)

It. is. NOT. a superpower to be annoying. It’s not a superpower to hunker down in selfishness, stupidity, and self-aggrandizing grunts. Our entire species’ deal is the cooperative thinking that takes us somewhere useful and new. You’re literally throwing away your birthright, and making your own self subhuman. It. is. NOT. a superpower to run away from udimonoa or to prefer being a gadfly. It’s just a pathetic choice: you’d rather waste all the resources spent on you to this point.

Clarifying: Because females don’t need to be ‘given’ success by underperforming males was the point there, not that males often won’t underperform. The more I learn of history and understand reality in all its forms around me, the more I realize how much destruction by the incompetent to avoid natural outcomes has permeated narratives in humanity.

If this is true, here’s an alternate theory: Males are hardwired to seek female approval because it’s exclusively a female who first kept them alive.
This attempt to make it about ‘game’ is not a healthy reading. And, again, gotta stress it sounds pretty fake in the first place. There are very few arenas where males are inheritently superior and ‘let’ females have success. Period.

They have “cooped up” fever, but they know they are in an office. When you played nature sounds while they felt stuck, you introduced a feeling of ‘wrongness’ to the feeling of being trapped.
OR they were very happy whining and didn’t want any solutions because they were whine-bonding. That happens in offices, too.

Like - it WOULD be funny if the constant presentation of history wasn’t Euro-Men-Did-All-The-Things-Because-Their-Birthright-Is-Just-To-Be-Awesome-Like-That. But it is, and that’s not only a lie historically. It’s a lie right now. Do you want to know why the history you were taught growing up doesn’t seem to match the world around you, as far as who is the most competent??? I’ll tell you!!!! Because the history you were taught is a carefully curated mockery of reality! There is no reason not to teach kids about all of human history, including deliberate destruction and dismissal. It does not change the story one bit to acknowledge more people in the frame. It hurts NO ONE to teach kids about the history of strong humans of every shade of color and identity. But it is a little uncomfortable to realize you supported evil lies. So history books stay myoptic and moronic males stay CERTAIN that they *gave* inherent rights and that they were literally born to greatness.

This has to be fake. That will never work on anyone less than 45, and it just teaches them immunity to other attempts to control or shame. If it’s not fake - and I think it has to be - it’s a well executed bad idea.

Good, they can pay the money to have the person who bankrupted multiple businesses line the pockets of his friends to build a thing that sub-performs. Everyone’s happy.
They get to give money to a thing they’ve been told is important. I don’t have to worry about the actual functioning government sidetracked by this extremely less effective use of security money and resources. Win-win.

Number of infants relinquished in US over several years - 3,000ish. Incidence of counted rape is 2 per 1,000. Approximate female population of US is 155 million. False equivalency in multiple ways, numbers being just one.

But, no see. The analogy would be if you were telling babies not to go near dumpsters. You are LITERALLY telling the same people “do all this not to get raped” and given them more instructions on entirely different thing to say “this is how it feels”. No. Let it sink in that your ad would have to target the *babies* to be equivalent. Then spend even a fraction of the energy you supplied to this, to ANYTHING that tells men NOT to target others for undeserved pain!!!!!111!!!!!!
