There may be global warming, but it isn't automatically caused by man. There have been several climate changes over the millennia.

If it does exist and is caused by man, wrecking the US and European economies to get rid of the last bit of carbon use pales to the greenhouse gas emissions of China and India, but we're totally obsessed with regulating the west and ignoring the east. It may end up being that the west's technology comes to the rescue, so I'd hate to squelch all the development there via having government control of the whole economy. Have you seen how well that worked for the USSR? They couldn't even feed their own people, much less have such an abundance that they could export. And what developments like iPhones or wifi have come from government comtroled economies?

We want green buildings that are net zero, carbon usage! We want good wifi reception at every nook and cranny.

Ohhhh....modern buildings don't look as good as the ones that were built with terrible use of scarce resources and terrible ongoing energy usage. Also, where's my participation trophy?

Jesus didn't wash a sex worker's feet. He did wash his disciples' feet, and a prostitute washed His feet with her tears.

It doesn't seem like He was against capitalism, either. He advocated using your resources to help others, but NOT confiscating others' resources to do things to make you feel that you were "doing something."

Believers are an imperfect and sinful lot. Here's an odd thought: Making up a version of God to serve your thoughts about what you want Him to be is creating a false god.

No no no. Government is the ANSWER, not the problem. How will you ever be able to enact the glories of socialism if you don't accept the wisdom of the government making the correct decisions for you to save you and others from making inferior decisions for themselves?

OK american Teenagers. Here's your chance to adopt the customs of another country, and you don't even have to,wait for adults to make a law forcing people to do it. You should be eager, since you're always complaining how America is so lame compared to all the other countries.

Well, it IS literally true. 16 girls could have become pregnant in Florida after a teen boy ejaculated in a pool somewhere else (maybe not even in Florida). The caption doesn't claim the ejaculation cause the pregnancies.

Part 2:
I got to take over the work of several laid off coworkers, and come in at 4:30 AM many days to provide training to a team in China, and I wondered if I was training my replacements. When an emergency task came in, I had to start working on Sunday's because I was already coming in on Saturdays. Many days I thought my heart would explode. No other companies were hiring, and I was trying to figure out how to make it so if I did work in another state, my kids in high school would be able to stay at that school and not have to uproot for their last year or two. Plus, with the three largest companies in town going through bankruptcy, nobody wanted to buy a house here anyway.

So, I'm not posting this for sympathy, but so that you will see why plenty of people say that college (or high school) is the best time. You are responsible for you,and not a bunch of others as well.

When kids in high school or college complain about how tough it is, I recall being there myself. Having to hustle for shcolarships, part time job at minimum wage to pay for school, dealing with phonies and stupid people. But guess what. You're responsible for only yourself. In the future, you'll still have tight deadlines, unrealistic expectations, dealing with all kinds of terrible people, but you'll also get to be responsible for others, not just taking kids to appointments or whatever, but having to provide for them as well.

Man, did I lose sleep in 2009 when my company laid off 80% of the employees in our town, and the other two big employers went through bankruptcy so houses were worth nothing for those moving away to get others jobs (of which there were few, because of the terrible recession), and I was the sole income source for my wife and four kids. Not just the income, but health insurance as well.

I'd gladly trade that for having three finals & a term paper due.

I read the one on the right. It's actually very good if you want the sort of "how to succeed in professional life and get along with people, get stuff done and not spin your wheels as much" type of advice that you might get from a successful uncle. Like all advice, it doesn't apply to everyone in all situations, but if you have a little common sense you can pick up some nuggets that apply to you. Obviously, you don't treat it like a recipe book that you follow without question.

I also like "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and "Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten."

"Doctors say we need gun control." Yeah, being highly educated in repairing human anatomy makes you an expert in social dynamics and consequences of laws. Have you noticed that gun violence in the US has INCREASED as we've added more and stricter gun laws?

And the main thing I've noticed that the "do something about climate change" people do is to drive all around protesting climate change, and worship people who fly to other countries to discuss and "raise awareness" of climate change. They don't actually do,anything that actually DOES improve the climate change situation, just propose laws restricting what others can do and add taxes to things that they don't think will affect themselves.

Being Black in America Means You Can Do No Good 4 comments

Because only in the last year or two have we ratcheted offense and grievance from an 8 to a 9.5.

OK, so they say "ex con" in the headline. That gives more info in less space than giving his name. The headline is SUPPOSED to draw you in to read the article. Did they not mention the name in the article? Of course they did. But yeah, if you only skim headlines you'll miss important details.

Racism? I'll bet that they'd have made the same headline/tagline on a white ex-con as well. But then the offense seekers would say "Oh, you have to point out that a white guy is an 'ex con' because you just assume all Black men are."

Julian Assange arrest 22 comments

Agreed.

It's illegal in every country to spy on them, but every country has spies in other nations. So, if we are going to be the only country that obeys the law, we're going to be at a serious disadvantage both economically and also in security. But if you grant that we need to do what every country does but denies doing, don't we need to keep a lot of stuff secret, like, identities and even what we found out? In WWII, one of the biggest secrets was that we had the codes broken for both the Germans and Japanese. If that got out, they'd change the coding method.

Can't help but notice that what used to be called a centrist political position is now "far right." As we've voted farther and farther to the left, things have gotten progressively worse.

One example, not, economic, is how students used to bring hunting rifles to school to leave on a hunting trip straight from there. Nobody shot up a school. Now, after decades of MORE LAWS, gun violence is higher, and the "solution" is more laws for the law-abiding to obey, but the law breakers are willing to break seven or eight instead of just five.

But, yeah, keep voting for more "free stuff" like health insurance or college tuition or generous welfare benefits for illegal immigrants, and imagine that it'll be paid for by taxing "the rich."

Alternatively, people who are really or live in "bad" areas typically don't have a lot of nature or relaxing type of surroundings, so it's not the green necessarily causing problems but indicating the presence of the actual causes. So, getting some green parks into a poor area may not have any positive effects.

But, as always, "scientists say that..." <some bizarre conclusion not supported by the facts> when in reality some scientists made a study that the media misinterpreted.
