A female friend of mine once put this to the test when she asked which lipstick to wear and I replied that they all looked the same to me. Yep, I can confirm this. It's kind of common knowledge in Germany. His native dialect really makes him sound as if he grew up where humans are rather scarce, the majority of the population consists of livestock and there's a lot of interbreeding between the two groups.

In German it is also "Hai" for shark and it sounds exactly like the English "hi". Which, when used as a greeting in Germany, can provoke the other person to pretend being unable to understand English and ask 'Wo' in mock panic. "Wo" is German for where. It's probaply the oldest joke about English-German homophones.
