Make that a black lesbian Russian soldier falling in love with a jewish trans Ukrainian soldier. That would be more like Netflix these days.

You've got it the wrong way round. Atheism is the default setting. Unless someone exposes you to religion, you simply remain an atheist. Hence, atheism cannot leave you.
And from personal experience I can tell you that a shaking plane did not make me a believer. It just made me kiss my wife and crack stupid jokes like how we don't have to worry about bombs on the plane or hijackers anymore.

If ritualistic genital mutilation happens to girls it's considered an archaic and barbarian practise but if it happens to boys it's perfectly fine. It's a tradition which is just peer pressure by dead people. For more information why happy foreskin chopping is still all the rage in the USA just watch that season 1, episode 2 of Adam Ruins Everything.

A female friend of mine once put this to the test when she asked which lipstick to wear and I replied that they all looked the same to me. She didn't believe me, put three lipsticks on the table and told me to sort them from lighter to darker shades of red, which I did after some hesitation. Seeing this she smugly said with a victorious smile on her face:
"See that wasn't so difficult, you can see the difference when they are next to each other."
To which I replied:
"You do realise that they've got numbers on the caps, do you? It was just a 50/50 chance whether the numbers are ascending or descending from light to dark; from my point of view they are all just red."

Yep, I can confirm this. It's kind of common knowledge in Germany. His native dialect really makes him sound as if he grew up where humans are rather scarce, the majority of the population consists of livestock and there's a lot of interbreeding between the two groups.

Maybe it's not loneliness but a parent having a moment of respite. Have kids and you'll quickly learn to enjoy a meal in peace.

@guest_ As always, thanks for educating the lazy rest of us but I'm somewhat disappointed: Am I the only one who stumbled over referring to diamonds as "the hardest metal"? Cheers

Lucas ruined it first with the prequels. Disney just did what Disney does best: Take a story and dumb it down so even a mentally challenged six-year-old can follow.

That BS was propaganda by the monk Salimbene of Parma against Frederick II due to Frederick's almost permanent conflict with the popes. There is not a shred of evidence supporting that Friedrich II (often confused with Friedrich II. of Prussia) ever conducted such an experiment. There are tales of Pharao Psamtik who supposedly is the origin this myth.

... or Freud developed that theory during a time when it was normal for middle class children to be raised by nannies. Unlike today, children back then were not raised by their parents and therefore had difficulties forming an incest barrier which comes natural to children growing up in normal families today.

I can't remember which Discworld novel it is but in one of them is a paragraph about this. There, Terry Pratchett speculates that a lot of mountain names probably just mean "that's a mountain, you idiot" in the local language.

Although I never had the displeasure of flying with Lufthansa, I think this is plausible. Being a German myself, I can confirm that this is a correct and fair representation of our idea of customer service. Customers are not kings where I live. They are petitioners and are to be treated as such. Just one more reason for the rest of the world to love us.

Shark fact nr. 623, it's also the Norwegian word for shark 14 comments

In German it is also "Hai" for shark and it sounds exactly like the English "hi". Which, when used as a greeting in Germany, can provoke the other person to pretend being unable to understand English and ask 'Wo' in mock panic. "Wo" is German for where. It's probaply the oldest joke about English-German homophones.
