Didn't his wife also force him to pay her insane amounts of money in alimony? I've read that the divorce hit him hard too because since he wasn't as famous as he used to be at that time anymore, she basically asked for all his earnings.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I still don't think a single platform is the solution, but it's true that the way things are now is far from ideal. Especially if you're from a country that isn't the US, like in my country Netflix's selection is crap (I guess because of licencing and stuff) but the prices are the same which is bs.

Yesss you summed up my feelings on it exactly. The aesthetic is so nice. But I wouldn't like to go back to get treated like I'm subhuman. Just look at ads from that time. "So easy to use a woman can figure it out!" Like excuse me what the fuck. Or the ones that straight up supported domestic violence. It was not a good time to be a woman. Even the fashion, as nice as it was, was very strict.

You just know this was started by one idiot and then everyone followed suit because going against it would waste space

Do YOU want a monopoly? Because pushing for all shows to be distributed by one company is how you get a monopoly.

Without a moral compass or an explanation, why would a person care about rules?

Iirc the apple gave humans the ability to know good and evil... so they didn't before eating it so they and didn't know it was bad. So really the game was rigged from the start.

Those glasses <3
Iirc a character named Shino wore glasses like that (a creepy bug guy, minor character I think) but I don't remember him joining the akatsuki. But to be fair I haven't finished the manga or the anime, it got too much filler and then I couldn't bring myself to look up the episodes with plot.

Here's the thing: do women choose low paying positions or are female-dominated positions paid worse because they have a majority of women there? Take for example teachers or nurses – absolutely crucial jobs, but underpaid as hell. I'm wondering whether gender might play a role in that, since statistically women are less likely than men to just go up to their boss and ask for a raise, even if they have the skills to be making a lot more. I'm thinking this mindset, along with gender sterotypes like that women choose "easy" jobs, might have deepened over time to the point female dominated professions are just systemically worse paying.

Yeah, I agree with that, not for reasons of virtue and such but rather because if you're not selective about your partners, you may find yourself in some shitty situations, and also because of diminishing returns, you may find that sex isn't even fun anymore if you do it everyday (that's why I think some people find themselves stuck in hookup culture, they think more sex with strangers will solve the problem but the opposite is true). There are arguments for being more reserved about sex just like there are arguments for being reserved about eating or drinking, though personally I'd rather focus on the practical ones rather than "virtue", because of how abstract a concept it is. That's why I said in my first reply that there is a middle ground, you can sleep with your boyfriend/girlfriend and still be "virtuous" about it.

Maybe, but that's how it works in reality. Even if your intentions are good and you want to prevent people from "sinning", telling them they can't have sex before marriage and refusing to talk about methods of birth control does way more harm than good. Why do you think the Bible belt has the highest number of teen pregnancies?

That's a good question. There are people who would consider kissing before marriage too impure, or even hugging. Y'know, the type of people who would use the chewed gum analogy and mean it.
I don't disagree that sex, at least the way I see it, is a private thing, and a sort of bonding ritual I guess. Personally I'm not the type to sleep around either. However, a) you can have a beautiful bonding experience with a boyfriend/girlfriend you're not married to, premarital sex doesn't make you a chewed gum, and b) me feeling the way I do shouldn't dictate what other people do. Maybe for some people there's a disconnect between sex and love because of traumatic experiences. Maybe they have attachment issues but a high libido. I can't judge their situation and honestly forcing people like that into marriage would be even worse. What we have now is better than marrying someone you know for half a year because you wanna bone without breaking the purity promise and then regretting it forever.
