That defense works for civilians who aren't trained to handle situations like that, cops should be trained to a) de-escalate, b) disarm a subject without just straight up murdering them. Granted, your fight or flight instinct kicks in and you do anything to survive, that can happen to all humans including cops. But maybe we should examine why it happens so often and so disproportionately in the US and specifically towards minorities in the US, compared to for example European countries?

Storytime, me and a friend of mine once went to a café to study for an exam. It was just the two of us as nobody in our group of friends had this particular subject we were studying for. The waitress/cashier (?) assumed we were on a date and gave the bill to him. I didn't want to demean him by saying "nooooo we're just friends" so I just shrugged it off, but I paid when we met to study the next time, as it was the only obvious course of action to me. Besides, I hate owing money to people, just a personal quirk I guess. And he wasn't a dick about it and didn't assume I was trying to mooch off of him, just that the waitress had misread the situation. Oh hell yeah, Japanese futons are amazing. I sleep on a loft bed so I can't get one right now because good quality futons are quite heavy compared to foam mattresses and I don't want to risk overburdening the bed, but I'd love to get a futon in the future. I was thinking about maybe stacking two on top of each other on some palettes and making it a couch in the day and then a bed at night. The only thing you have to be careful about with futons is airing the mattress enough. Since futons are usually made of natural materials, moisture means mold and that could be the death of the mattress, so you have to flip it often.

Seconding this! I sometimes get headaches that last the entire day just from twisting my neck wrong during sleep, I've been trying lower pillows and the headaches are less frequent now. I also need to learn to sleep on my back. I've been a belly sleeper for so long and it's the reason why I sometimes twist my neck like that.
Tip: Sometimes it helps to lie on your back on the floor for a bit. No pillow, no mattress, maybe just a thin blanket underneath. It sorta resets your muscles and bones. At least that's what helps me anyway.
