Ahahaha true! Growing up my mom always made bland, steamed vegetables (with a few exceptions, for example her breaded and fried cauliflower is the best.) Then I learned how to cook and discovered all kinds of delicious vegetable soups!

Yes! He makes it clear that he's only writing down stuff he was told. He wrote down what he heard and didn't much bother with fact checking. As such, the books are an interesting melange of myth, history and traditions/cultures. I've listened to them as an audiobook, 10/10 background noise while doing chores haha

Agreed! However, long lasting doesn't necessarily mean happy. When one party is always understanding and forgiving and the other always requires understanding and forgiveness, it might not be worth it.

Ahaha yeah, it sure wasn't his strongest moment. But tbh he's at his strongest when he argues with college students who have no debate experience, because he can keep his BS flowing and nobody will call him out.

Right? She's rolling in money made from selling scam "health" products like vibrating stickers or psychic vampire repellent or crystal vagina eggs. Especially now in quarantine when people are getting mental and desperate and buying stuff that they think can potentially help them, including her snake oil. How can she be sad, of all people?

I've actually found out that most of the time I just need to re-thread the upper thread! Idk, as a beginner this is all strange and new to me, that just yesterday the machine was sewing fine and then the next day, without changing anything and working with the same fabric, it behaves like an arse. Thank you for the tip though, I knew about the tension part but didn't realize it could also be a bent needle!

Yes! Gurus and cult leaders especially are super interesting because it's all this stuff we've talked about but to the absolute extreme. It's really interesting to see how they keep their "flock" in line, all the mind games and tactics. And yeah maybe it's a bit macabre of me to be so fascinated by this, seeing as the situations are often really messed up, but it's just fascinating from an anthropological perspective.
Edit: oh and if you want a good intro to Ben Shapiro, as well as to have a laugh, I'd recommend you watch his interview with Andrew Neil on the BBC.

Yeah. Not to group him in with anti-vaxxers, but Benny Shapiro is really good at this. He talks fast and has a very high BSPM (bullshit per minute) ratio, so to effectively debunk him you have to take his speech apart and fact check it thoroughly. Which of course is not something you can do on the go, hence why he's so successful at debating.

The whole situation is so cuckoo. Wakefield performed colonoscopies on the kids, something you absolutely shouldn't do unless there's a very valid reason and all other options have been exhausted, because their bodies are small and the equipment could seriously hurt them, which if I remember correctly did happen to at least one of the kids. Most of the kids in his study, y'know about how MMR vaccines cause autism, didn't actually have autism (or bowel issues for that matter)! He was commissioned to make this lying study by some sketchy lawyer guy. So he lied and lied and lied to get rich and now idiots are regurgitating his talking points.

Up to a point, yeah money definitely buys happiness. Life's a lot easier when you don't have to constantly worry about making rent or whether you'll be able to afford dinner for your family. There was a study I read a while back, I'll link it if I'll be able to find it again, that showed that very often poor people can't escape poverty because just the worry about money itself takes up so much of their mental space and drains their energy so they have none left to actually improve their lot in life. Not to mention all the other issues connected to poverty, like lack of health care including mental health, basic necessities, opportunities and so on. In essence, poverty perpetuates itself, and the phrase "money doesn't buy happiness" deflects a lot of people's real experiences.
But yeah once you're comfortably rich and have enough money to buy anything you need when you need it, then you realize all your problems can't be solved by throwing money at them I guess.

Yeah, I was about to mention that as well. If I remember correctly, back when the thot audit happened the IRS even asked people not to report these sex workers because the overwhelming majority of them were paying their taxes properly, and reporting people like that en masse was just wasting the IRS's time.
But I mean, we know the thot audit wasn't really about taxes. It was just incels being incels.

My other grandma though, now her cooking was *the shit* (tm). Everything was always 100% home made, and she had chickens and grew her own vegetables.
