We can go back further for more stupid. Mortal Kombat's cartoony effects? Night Trap? Seriously, watch Night Trap on youtube and try not to laugh. Yet that was considered too risque. So much so that Congress got involved. Yeah. Things were crazy. If anything, people are less sensitive today than in the past.

To be fair, being a petrol-state with few other exports didn't do Venezuela any favors either. Once the price of oil fell, the country fell with it.
