I know right? I don't understand why this 'rule' only applied to ladies, because I'd be pretty un-gentleman like to let the door close on a guy walking right behind you...
Yes! If someone's a few feet away and my family/friends keep walking I'll hold the door open until they come. They were right there! Always take the oppurtunity, you never know how much a kind act can do. Like, if they were a serial killer and they saw me walking down the street one day, they'd be like 'Oh, let's not kill her. She opened the door for me at Panera that one time.'

I broke my toes on Christmas and needed surgery, I clean up if I'm hanging out with any gender still (Even though it's hard because I'm on crutches) and I let them go in first or I try my best to hold the door.:)
Except sometimes it feels awkward when someone holds the door open for you and you are still a ways away so you run to make sure they don't have to wait
It's kinda awkward doing it for just a guy though... anyone else noticed that? The other guy doesn't really know how to respond. Most people will hold the door open behind them no matter who is coming, but holding the door open and letting her go first is definitely a gender role thing. Nothing wrong with that either. :)
I do this a lot, but sometimes I get stuck but I have to keep the door open because I feel bad otherwise, so I get caught holdin the door open for 5 minutes before my friend pulls me away which I resist because I feel bad and mean.
