You'd think that we would have a wider definition of sentience. Animals besides humans can think and feel. We pretend that the soul is unique to us, but it is not. Even ancient religious writers in the Judeo-Christian line have recognized this. Why can't we?

I was able to watch an elephant actually do this and a dolphin, is was amazing!

This is why it's so cruel to keep them in circuses. Chained to the floor 95% of the time and only let out to perform stupid tricks for our amusement. :(

I don't think most places are like that. This one is from India, they're like gods there to them. But sadly there are people who would do what you said. But I saw a documentory on these elies and they seemed very happy to do what they do. :)
