I think Wiliaso's point was that those on the losing side have ancient information/rules that don't pertain to the nature of equality in our modern world. They hold their beliefs based on a book written 2000 years ago. A book that was written in an era when men couldn't shave, and women had husbands chosen for them by the age of 12.
Sorry, but the "belief" excuse doesn't mean shit when the only reason you believe is because your have a closed mind. Cattle don't have causes. Get your shit together.

Yes that was the point we were both making (me and guest 2)
Of course you have the right to fight for what you believe in, that is one of the great things about America. But nobody I've met from your side has been pulling punches either. I've had gay friends who are called all kinds of foul slurs for having the audacity to want to be treated like equal human beings. I've heard stories about homosexual couples who could not see their partner in their dying moments because they weren't "legally family" and so the hospital would not let them into their room. I'm not fighting you for spite, I'm not doing it to try to hurt your relationship with God, in fact, it makes me sad that it does make some people question their beliefs because having something like that to believe in is comforting. But I cannot just keep my mouth shut completely. Not while this gross injustice continues, not while human beings are treated like second class citizens. I may not be out there gathering signatures and giving speeches, I can't, I have obligations to my family to f
...fulfill first. But I will make my opinion known, and vote every chance I get. And I will no longer timidly disagree with people screaming in my face about the Bible. Sometimes you have to be a little mean. Yes I believe that you are bigots in this area of your lives. I don't think that you're bad people but you are, in my opinion, being very unfair to people just like you because of something they cannot control.
One of the frustrations I face with this issue is that we don't leave any room between "I don't agree with homosexual behavior" and "I think gay marriage should be illegal." Those two are not the same thing, and it is totally possible to believe the first without believing the second.
although I do support gay rights I totally agree with you. People forget that there's always a gray area. You can be in-between without being ignorant or hateful.
I really wish stupid people would quit blaming the Bible for preventing gays from marrying. Science and evolution does not support homosexuality either as it flies in the face of everything Darwin and Dawkins have written about. In a nutshell? DNA inside our genes seek to pass themselves on through sexual reproduction, which is impossible in homosexual unions. If gay was okay, there would have been only male or only female, yet that's not the case; for long before the media and liberals tried to make everyone think otherwise, Mother Nature decided for us.
Guest, what you just said is what inspired the phrase, "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". Keep up the science classes. Eventually you'll get to the part that not only supports homosexuality, but explains how it happens.
"Equality is an illusion." I take it that you're a white guy then. It's real easy to not give a shit about the rights of others when you're on the top of the ladder. Or maybe you're just a total cynic, who knows. And I have a faithful Christian roommate who supports gay marriage. The way she explained it was that she couldn't judge other people because they sinned differently than her and that all sins are equal in the eyes of God. She may not exactly understand homosexuality but she doesn't feel like it's her place to judge them or with hold their rights. One last thing, it's accept not except.
Yeah equality is an illusion. so screw gays, and you know what screw everyone who isn't white too. Also take away womens right they dont deserve them. Better yet take away women, guys can be with themselves... wait what? (All of this is sarcasm btw)
Wow. I'm a white male Christian, and I've always been for equality. Please don't lump an entire race of people together like that. It's not fair to say that white males are "at the top of the ladder", either. There are plenty of white folks that are down in the dumps. I'm not even making a South joke, either. Much like there are good and bad apples of all races, there are essentially second class citizens of all races. Usually because they are either homeless, lower class, under/uneducated, etc.
That said, mbgoveia and myself would probably be considered middle class, and I wholeheartedly wish that everyone could experience the wonders of middleclassdom before it is but a fond memory.
And cut the crap about NAMBLA, already. You sound like you'd fit right in with the republicans that are fighting tooth and nail to deny you your citizenship.
I am so tired of mgoveia slamming republicans every chance he gets. There already is a "path to citizenship" available. All of my great grandparents walked it, why is it suddenly not
good enough? We live in a "flyover town" in New York and have to endure the expense of NYC mayor after NYC mayor inviting illegals in for free healthcare and a long list of social programs. If you snuck into most other nations you would be arrested as those hikers in Iran were or the boat full of Chinese refugees in Canada. Why is it wrong to expect the laws and borders of our sovereign nation be respected?
Boo hoo. Maybe they should stop giving everyone so many opportunities to slam them?
Anyway, last I heard our "path to citizenship" is 10 years long, and you're not even guaranteed citizenship after that. I can't be arsed to look the damn thing up right now, but at the time, it appeared to be just another desperate and thinly-veiled attempt by the repubs to snatch up the latino vote.
*Illegally And I don't believe in kicking people out who are here to improve their lives and be productive members of society. I think a big part of why the US is so defensive about people crossing the border is because of the onslaught of drug cartel members who came here. As for equality how do you know we won't be? Just because we're not there yet doesn't mean it's impossible. And it's people like you, who sit around pissing and moaning about how impossible it is, that are part of the problem. I went to high school with an undocumented girl who graduated my freshmen year. Since then she has been working her ass off to change immigration laws while attending full time at Penn State. She organizes rallies and sit-ins, she gives speeches, she contacts representatives. She risks deportation everyday because she openly admits her illegal status. And if change never happens at least she can say she tried, at least she can say she said something, rather than sitting around whining about it
Sounds like a class act.
I have to disagree with the "cartel" reasoning. They get their wares over the border just fine as it is. Having reasonable immigration laws doesn't affect them one way or the other.
