This is so true. One day, out of the blue one of my 'friends' was like do you support gay marrige? I said yes (Im not gay, just support letting people love who they love and go to a catholic school). He said he didn't. He thought it was 'gross'. Coments like that just make me sad when people don't give someone a chance. I just don't think people should force their beliefs on others, especially if the 'issue' will never directly concern them. Just my thoughts on this. Rant over.
I asked my friends if they were ok with homosexuals. They weren't, they said some pretty homophobic things like how it is unnatural and against their religion. The reason I asked for their thoughts on homosexuality was because I was thinking of coming out of the closet. :'(
I'm sorry Maliah, that really sucks. Like song said, you'll find people who support you. That's what's so great about funsubstnace- we're open minded and accepting. :) I don't know if this means much but I accept you 100%. And hope you find some great people soon :)
I'm gay and it honestly is awesome to finally come out of the closet. My advice is to find some back-up friends and then come out. If your current friends still don't accept gays you can dump them and hang out with your back-ups. You already have enough reason to fucking divorce, and these guys are just your friends. You can find new ones. I fact, finding new friends is really easy when you're gay (not sure if that's universal or just my experience, or if they've anything to do with each other at all, but that's what happened with me).
I can't stand small minded people and would like to wholeheartedly offer my support and friendship to maliah, because you said you always have elevator music playing in your head (yeah, I creeped on your comments, you can never be too careful about who you befriend) and dorkykong because you combined dorks and Donkey Kong, which are great on their own but exponentially better together. So... Please be my friend? Please? I'll make you both some cake.
I think that if fun substance can accept you. Then your friends can too. Even if they don't agree they can live with it. If they can't live with it find new friends that support you. I hope one day you will come out of the closet and have a supporting group that loves you as a person who is confident in yourself. Good luck!
At first I was like, "oh cool a funny post that I can laugh at". Then I got to #8 and I'm like. "Come on dude, You still get the like but "only one religion in america" & "America is a theocracy"?" America is a melting pot of culture and religions so just because there are people who think they belong here and others don't does not mean that only one religion exists in America.
Not all government workers are religious so we are definitely not a theocracy.
If you feel like your oppressed because of christians, please don't. Our laws about marriage are what they are because most of the lawmakers at that time were religious. Now that LGBTs are coming out of the shadows maybe there will be more LGBT congressman (or supporters of) and the laws will change.
It's making fun of the argument that this shouldn't be a law because of religion. One that not everyone follows and one that even its own members don't all agree on gay marriage or homosexuality.
I am friends with lots of homosexuals and one time at school I let Cece who is bi, lean on my shoulder. After class this guy Merlin asks me "why would u let her lean on you!? You KNOW she's bisexual right? That's gross how she touched you." I was speechless at how fucked up that was. I asked why it was gross. I said who gives a shit if she's Gay? No one cares. That doesn't mean she wants to have sex or go out with me. He just walked away. He says Cece is gross? He is the one who needs to get his act together.
I can't get my head around the fact that people want to make/keep something illegal simply because they don't like it. I don't like sprouts so probably they should be illegal. And I don't agree with people wearing the color orange, it isn't flattering on anyone, so it really needs to be outlawed. Or, maybe I just won't eat sprouts or wear orange...
It is unnatural. Air condition is taking air and speeding it up and using coolerant to make cool air. It's natural. Eye glasses are simply using a lens to see better. Not unnatural. Wtf about polyester? Changing sexual orientation is not even comparable to changing your height. That's argument is invalid. Smoking around people can make other people smoke. That argument is valid. Back in the sixties there was a movement against homosexuality and people said that this would open the door to them wanting to marry ... That was true. And there is a movement in some parts of the US that has a movement for marrying animals. So yes it could open that door. Those people who say it will destroy the sanctity of marriage like Britney's marriage don't approve of that either so that is not valid either. The argument of children isn't saying that they shouldn't marry because they can't have kids, it's because their biological makeup doesn't match to reproduce. Religion isn't the idea ...
Isn't it actually in the bible to not wear mixed cloth?
Leviticus 19:19 I think it was?
And being gay is not like smoking. In anyway. Chances are you know someone whos gay that just hasn't come out of the closet yet. Have you caught the closet gay effect? I know a lot of gay people and I'm happily living with my boyfriend so idk wtf you're going on about. You can't "catch" gay.
Also there are MULTIPLE cases of animals with homosexual behavior from sex, bonding to raising young and so on.
Lists birds, mammals, fish, even some reptiles.
So this "its not natural" thing is complete bull too.
The mixed cloth wearing were for the hebrews of Moses' time. If you're going to use the bible in your argument do it right.

Religion is a group of people who hold a set of ideals. These ideals are how they live. Their life is how they vote. Their voting is what makes up government and that shows that government and religion go hand in hand.
Recently, I voiced my opinion that gays should have equal rights. I live in a very conservative, wealthy town. It was obviously a mistake to say what I believed when I was asked. After that people had asked why I was stupid, but in a much more vile way. It became clear to me that no matter how hard I tried, my classmates would be relentless with their hate. But I refuse to remain voiceless as fellow humans have hate crimes done to them, rights stolen, and prejudice put upon them. If you think it's a sin, good. Have an opinion, but don't hate others. Don't shove your beliefs down my throat. It kills me to see pain so relevant in people I know, while others couldn't care less. If you don't like gays, please don't prevent their rights or happiness.
1) Eyeglasses, polyester and air conditioning are not natural, they are inventions, there is a difference.
2) No gay marriage will encourage people to be gay the same way smoking cigarettes will encourage people to smoke. And the number of bisexuals and genderfluid and whatever crap has risen, just look at tumblr.
3) No, because the zoosexual claims he is born that way and in love. The fact you don’t even know that zoosexuals are claiming they have a sexual orientation. Basically saying dogs can be owned by heterosexuals but not loved by marriage by zoosexuals makes u kind of a bigot and ignorant.
4) Most of those was laws was struck down, didn’t mean the definition of marriage changed.
5) I don’t know how important gay marriages are since Larry Brikin the father of gay marriage decided to discuss child rape rather than be with his husband.
) Some infertile couples struggle to get children and u are invalidating their pain, and old people deserve the right to get marriage to show heterosexuals how marriage works. And most gays buy womens bodies to have kids so they are contributing to the baby boom but somehow only heteros get the annoyance of these stupid comments.
7) Gay parents do raise kids that question their sexuality, I recall one lesbian actively wishing her kids were gay. U can read about it on news sites.
8) America was founded on Christianity, and the other religions were allowed to exsist. U do know the meaning of tolerance right?
9) Children of single parents do worse off at school, just see the issues with black children in single parent households. But hey, u want to stop single parent families, it would be better for society
10) We didn’t adapt, it happened and I am sure people can adapt with a pedophile saying they are born that way with a sexual orientation like Japan has, but u have to see the quality of society.
I remember coming out as Bi to my dad, he didn't speak to me for 4 months, and when he did, he said I was "a disgrace and I don't have the right to be his daughter" the worst part is, my mom would accept me, but she's dead
The other day, my classmate was talking to her friends in the locker rooms and when one of her friends told her that they didn't do well on a test, my classmate said "That is so gay". Offended, I asked her why she would say that and then she looked like she was going to accuse me of being homosexual, but then she just went back to her conversation with her friends.
Its satire, which basically means it's criticizing something, usually in a humorous way. With this, they're criticizing people against same sex marriage rights.
@songofthewhitestag, i'm trying to applaud you and laugh at the same time now... :D i mean, laugh because you're right and you put it funnily not because i'd be laughing AT you, just so we're clear.
I hope this isn't serious... If this is serious, it makes me sick how someone can think like that! Gay relationships are as natural as heterosexual relationships!!
Honest, open question: If gays were allowed to marry, what then? Would the gay community still continue to feel oppressed? To what end would the gay community feel like their cause has been vindicated? To have everyone in the world love them and not be allowed to dislike them?
I highly doubt gay people expect everyone to love them. But being able to marry means a lot of benifits financially, when you die as well as just being able to say "I'm married."... I mean imagine if you couldn't marry your significant other just because someone who's not even in your life disagrees. Id be pretty upset. They just want equality.
Not to mention, we can't have control of our partner's body when they die nor can we visit them in the hospital if they're hurt if we can't get married.
"But being able to marry means a lot of benefits financially"
So it's all about money? Excuse the term, but the "gay mafia" in Hollywood has engineered this whole aggressive media campaign, just so gays can save a few bucks on their 1040 EZ's? Hardly noble.
Wow. Way to twist the meaning guest.
Most married people have joint bank accounts to manage their money TOGETHER. Its about them trying to live their life together.
You know I find it funny (and by funny I mean infuriating) how people can judge gays for wanting their love to simply be recognized yet straight people cheat, marry for money, and get divorces all the time. Pretty sure all of those are against the "original meaning of marriage" but you don't see many protests about that do you?
A valid argument against gay marriage is that of pedophilia. If gays are allowed to get married then why can't a 60 year old man marry a little girl. If they love each other than who are we to stop it. Also, many people use religion to argument a cause because their reapected religious books are the foundation of morals. If we choose to set aside some of these morals for others chaos will erupt. Furthermore, individuals may see that oh I love to eat dead people so why is the government limiting what I love to do. As a result, many law makers are on against gay marriage in America due to the possibility of opening a floodgate of other issues.
Well for one, no one at all can get married before 18 even if Gay marriage is legal. Is she is 18, by all means she can marry someone 60 years older than her. There's no law against that.
We've already set aside most of the archaic laws in the Bible (like every single rule about straight marriages, including them only ending by death), so why not this one? Furthermore, this "floodgate" could've opened 70 years ago with the Civil Rights Movement, or even 150 years ago with the Civil War and the abolishment of slavery. There'll never be a flood of other problems. We're just modernizing our civilization and fulfilling human rights one by one.
I just re-read your comment to make sure I didn't miss anything, and I noticed you said paedophilia is a valid argument. Just how is it valid? Are more paedophiles gay than straight? Is the percentage of gay paedophiles higher than the percentage of straight paedophiles?
I think the point he was making was that paedophilia is a sexual orientation just like homosexuality. I don't think he was implying that lots of gays are paedophiles. Interestingly though, the number of paedophiles in the world is estimated to be 3-5% (roughly), while homosexuals represent 0.5-3% of the population depending on which studies you believe.
Pedophiles are predators who prey on the young and weak. Homosexuals are people who are attracted to people of their same sex. The two are not the same.
do i see correctly, did the top comment really compare two adult people of the same sex marrying each other and a kid and an adult marrying each other? how in the name of fuck does that make sense? we're talking adult gays marrying here, you know, key word being ADULT.
Lax39 if your point is that its against religions to have gay marriage the dead body eating has nothing to do with it because there is no religion that encourages eating dead bodies and if you have permission from the person before they die then it is perfectly legal. So technically the law forbids you from marring someone you love (if you are gay) but allows dead body eating if you have permission.
Not all government workers are religious so we are definitely not a theocracy.

I hope you are not being serious!!!!

Fun fact! Leviticus is the same scripture religious people point to when they shame gay marriage.
