I think you guys are kind of missing the point here- this is a wage gap bake sale that has been being advertised for weeks- it's used to difference between women and men's wages through baked goods. It's satire, a gag, a joke meant to draw attention.

This just goes to show you can't judge things by just what you see
Men have to pay for women in other areas so it balences out, and women dont do as much work as men. They serrously dont. So i undersand why they get paid less
That's rarely true, asdf. Most women do if fact do the same amount of work as men and get paid less. (Psst. By the way, *seriously) And when/where do men have to pay for women?
Dates, movies, food, if your nice but all men are not

And what if a woman is single and has to pay for her own food? She could be doing the same exact job as her male counterpart and be getting less money which in turn means less food.
The thing is is that the "wage gap" is becoming a myth. Studies have shown that professional women have been shown to out earn their male counterparts by as much as 35%.
I've got it bookmarked on my laptop... I can post it later. Or, try googling "Women out earn male counterparts study" or a variation thereof.
The National average was found to be closer to 8-15% I think.
Here is a link to about 2 dozen articles, studies, and editorials regarding the wage gap in the past two years, all saying in the low to average income jobs, the wage gap remains unchanged still about 23% in favor of men, more so when you bring issues of race into it as well: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/gender-pay-gap/

There was an opinion piece done in the Daily Beast which I think you might be referring to saying for high income jobs, such as CEOS and Wall Sreet Traders, the wage gap has disappeared. Which is true, but women also hold less than 10% of those positions, and are more likely to be passed over for promotions.
The reason women earn less than men on average is that jobs that pay less (nurse, kindergarten teacher, maid, etc.) are mostly occupied by women, while the jobs that pay more (CEO or other "boss-type" jobs) are mostly occupied by men. There's no wage gap in the same job. Female teachers earn as much as male teachers. Female bankers earn as much as male bankers. Female police earn as much as male police. You get the point. The exact same job earns the same whether it's occupied by a man or a woman.
While it's true women are more likely to enter part time work in order to take on the role of primary caretaker in the family as well, the fact still remains that when it comes to equal pay for equal work, a wage gap exists in almost all major fields of employment, with women making on average 75-88% of what their male counterparts are in the same jobs. In fact, it was this phenomenon that inspired the Lily Ledbetter Act (The Fair Pay Act) when a woman sued her company for paying her less than her male peers, inspiring court cases across the country.

There's also no reason why traditionally female careers should be paid less, especially in the field of early childhood education. Experiences before the age of 6 play such a strong role in a person's life that they end up having a huge impact on society. There is evidence that investing in quality early learning programs has a greater effect than even post-secondary programs. So why shouldn't kindergarten teachers (traditionally female) be paid as much as university professors who are traditionally male?
Because university professors need to be more highly qualified than kindergarten teachers. Getting qualified costs money, which values their knowledge at a higher amount than a less qualified teacher. It is also about supply and demand; there are fewer university level professors and therefore they are harder to replace (more scarce), so some of the premium in their pay is due to retaining good employees. A kindergarten teacher is much easier to replace, since the professional threshold is much lower and so many more people can attain that threshold; there is then no need to pay them more in order to retain that employee (although many organisations give raises based on performance). Finally, the financial benefit to society is objectively greater for univeristy....
....professors since they work for a profit-making organisation, whereas kindergarten teachers do not. I also feel you have made a erroneous assumption in stating that university professors are mostly male. There are many female professors/lecturers, and even though this does vary by field, there is not a vast gulf between male and female academics (that is your personal cognitive bias). The second error you made was in assuming that professors earn a lot of money; they do not, even though it is more than a kindergarten teacher. Anyway I feel like I have answered most of your confusion.
Lol, this picture and title is only made better by the fact it took the resident feminist of FunSub to explain what it actual is. Irony in cupcake form (:(:(:(:
The prices are "equal" because that's the pay gap between men and women. What they are saying is that if women make less money, they should pay less for cupcakes :)
That's not true. My mother does WAY more work than the men in her office. When she's not sleeping she's working on a deal and she's grossly underpaid compared to the guys at that company.
Not every girl dates a guy, and not every girl lets a guy pay. Not every girl dates, period. So, no. Your argument is invalid, here. What about the single mother? Less pay means less for her and her kid(s).

When I started dating my husband, I made more than him. We worked for the same company. I had my own place. He asked to move in with me, I said yes, but I still paid all the bills. He got laid off, and started keeping house to make up for it. He got another job, made more than me, got laid off again. At this point we were sharing costs. But I made enough to keep us afloat. He has another job now. Bottom line, I'm the woman. I've worked consecutively at the same job for a while. And I know because I work at the same company my husband did that I make less than 96% of the men who work there.
That is a ridiculous comment. Unless you work in a commission based job, your salary is established when you are hired. Women don't make less because they "are not as good at their jobs," it's a bias that is established as soon as they are hired.

I made my way higher than he did at that corporation. I also have a bachelor's degree, and he has a high school diploma.
I remember the college nearest to where I used to live did a bake sale like this, except based on race. It was supposed to bring attention to how it's "easier for some races to get into college," but really it just brought a lot of controversy and protests. Asians paid $3, Whites paid $2, Latinos paid $1, Blacks paid $0.50, and Native Americans paid $0.25. Also, women got a 25-cent discount.
Problem was, a Native American girl quickly realized that she'd basically get goods for free, so instead of protesting the sale, she was just going to buy it all out! I don't remember exactly how that turned out in the end...
Iwantasandwich, maybe you wouldn't mind feminists so much if you understood feminism a little better. The point of the bake sale was to raise awareness, not to literally have equal prices. Stag and saviour's comments explain it well.
Stupid feminists with there high fault in ideas of women being able to vote and learn stuff and drive. As a woman I hate having the ability to own property and the right to say no to sex.....feminist you ruined my hole I lived in!!!
i just wanted to clarify, the people for gender equality are feminists, the people who think women are aiming for women to be better off are feminazis, and they are just as bad as misogynists.
Just to clarify, the title feminazi while accurate and highly descriptive... it may turn people off to hearing the clarification you try and tell them.
Here on the Internet, it's (mostly) fine, but in other conversations you may want to use misanthrope.
genuine thank you smitty, I've been looking for a real word for it for a while :) and don't you worry, I never have to say it in the real world because I only surround myself with who understand
I would not recommend calling your girlfriend a hooker. Not sure where that came from on this post, but in general tell her she is wonderful for her accomplishments, and you're proud of her. Exnay on the hookeray.
