While Mormons are supposed to refrain from crude phrases and swear words, we still do totally swear. There's even a past apostle the was known to swear often, even when talking at huge church functions.
Hey, you speak for yourself. I gave up swearing in middle school. (Not trying to sound self-righteous, I'm just saying, my experience and observation says otherwise)
Sounds to me like something he would say. And even if he didn't, I'm sure he would agree with it. But hey, this is the Internet, after all. If everything that wasn't true was taken down, there'd be nothing left for us to waste our time on. :P
He actually didn't. In fact, this is the first i've ever heard someone say he did. But people also think we have horns and every guy has 5 wives. It's always interesting to read what people think.

he definitely ha his flaws salt lake, i would recommend studying up a bit :)
I have actually taken many classes on him. His life, before and after he founded the LDS church. I've also read many books. It is a subject i am well versed in. Which is why i know it to be erroneous. When i wanted to learn about Judaism, i went to a Jew. When i wanted to learn about Muslims and the Koran, i went to a Muslim. If you want to know more or have questions about Mormons and the LDS church, i would hope you would go to a Mormon, and not just someone who claims to know about them.
Then why act as though I am uneducated? And if this IS something you're religious education was afforded, but mine not, can you please tell me where to "educate" myself, rather then being dismissive.

im not saying you are unducated! :) im just saying, if you look around, anything you will find stuff out. A lot of people find out all these bad things about Mormons and then members freak out. It wouldn't make you uneducated not to know, just that a lot of people are only looking for the bad stuff. (does that make sense? sorry)
"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." From the Journal of Discourses, Vol. 10.
"I say, rather than that apostates should flourish here, I will unsheath my bowie knife, and conquer or die. Now, you nasty apostates, clear out, or judgment will be put to the line, and righteousness to the plummet. If you say it is right, raise your hands. Let us call upon the Lord to assist us in this, and every good work." Journal of Discourses, 1853.
I took my fair share of Sunday School classes, priesthood meetings, and Elders Quorum, too. I read those little pamphlets about the Prophets. I got my Institute degree. I also do independent research on the matter. My girlfriend says I'm being led astray by anti-Mormon lies. Sadly, her view is common amongst the members I talk to.
The Journal of Discourses is far from being anti-Mormon. The D&C has some really strange shit in it, like the Book of Abraham. Every time I try to have a frank, non-religious discussion about the history of the church, I'm told that the Prophets are "just men" and that Heavenly Father will reveal it all to me when I reach the Celestial Kingdom. I've gotten stonewalled by Bishops and Branch Presidents who tell me, essentially, not to worry about it. It worries me that so many members are unable to look their history in the eye and accept it as fact, not as hate.
There's nothing wrong with learning facts. Those aren't where the lies exist. Besides, facts in themselves are essentially meaningless -- what matters is how we choose to interpret them. We see facts (this is assuming the facts are true, of course), combine them with subjective background knowledge, and then we create implications, assign the facts to a priority hierarchy, build arguments and conclusions, and quite literally decide for ourself what the fact means. I think it's absolutely critical to differentiate between the facts themselves and all the interpretation that we build around them. That's where the mistakes are made.
Am I making any sense?
