You beat me to the second. They had to die by the hand of one other. So the basilisk couldn't have killed harry since the basilisk is not He-who-must-not-be-named.

um didn't he have to die for the horcrux to be destroyed? he didn't die in the chamber of secrets? no?

The Horcrux that was part of Harry was in his soul. The basilisk fang entered his physical body. Two different concepts. By Voldemort "killing" Harry, he released his soul, as well as the Horcrux attached to it. But the venom couldn't reach Harry's heart.

Everyone is all "Because Harry and Voldemort had to kill one or the other. Here my conclusion was "phoenix tears have healing powers." .-.

Because he didn't die...the horcrux in him is actually in his SOUL. That's why when he was 'killed', so to speak, it was destroyed.

I think because the basilisk venom destroyed the horcruxes and since Harry is a horcrux and the venom didn't destroy him.. .

It didn't kill Harry so the horcrux lives.
