Don't birthcontrol pills regulate the menstruation cycle?

My doctor gives me painkillers and some other pill which doesn't make it as bad.

When I had sex ed in my school my teacher explained that birth control pills arent only used for not having kids and having sex. But you can or should if you will, use it to maintain a structured cycle. Since then every girl I know has been taking them and I never hear girls complain about a surprise period anymore.

I'm on birth control (hormone imbalance rather than fear of pregnancy) and I'm still surprised 8-| it still comes a few days before it should when its in the mood

Birth control pills are really helpful for some people, but lots of people can't take them for medical reasons.... And some of them can make you gain weight

Also, wouldnt them have some side effetcs if one uses them to regulate the cycle? Arent those pills a ball of hormones?
