Yes and no, as much as I like the idea of weeding out all of societies idiots there's a few downfalls,
A) we need the less intelligent to do lower paying jobs that others don't want to do (no offense to anybody doing these jobs, I'm not saying you're an idiot)
B) kids will be able to get their hands on drugs easier, they aren't necessarily stupid, but do tend to do stupid things.
Interesting fact
Did you know that earths current population is able to live in the state of Texas with a small back yard and a 3 bedroom house per person.
And I don't know about other countries, but NZ families are only having on average one child per family, so technically our population should be decreasing (it's not because we get lots of immigrants though :))
I wrote this on another post but legalizing drugs
PROS
1. we can control the purity (not ripped off but more importantly people don't "accidentally" get addicted to harder substances)
2. lessen drug wars
3. people will be more likely get help
4. insurance providers will know who drug users are and therefore increase rates
5. tax profits
6. economic growth for honest people to get jobs
CONS
1. deaths of people in accidents/murders increase
feel free to add/disagree
CONS
• As a society, people will really question our morality. Things like prostitution and drugs are seen as "bad" and "dangerous" and something you don't participate in as a good citizen. Both prostitution and drugs would be a lot safer if government regulated, but people will wonder if they want to live in a society were those things are legal. If you're talking about America, America's supposed to be this land of opportunity, freedom, and even safety because a lot of people immigrate here for security reasons, and if we legalized all drugs, we be one big step further for that image.
This is absolutely true. Legalization and regulation would actually make things safer and better and even create revenue for the government. It's the morality of the situation that keeps things where they are. But, one must remember that morality is deeply personal thing, and is different for everyone. When prohibition was voted in, the government put increasingly dangerous chemicals and toxins into denatured alcohol to keep people from drinking it. People still drank it and many died horrible deaths. The government just increased the deadliness of the industrial alcohols. So, there is a question of it being morally right to knowingly poison people, and say "well, they shouldn't drunk it."
People are going to drink even if it's prohibited. People are going to do drugs even if it's illegal. When do we decide to stop policing others because of our own morality? What I decide for myself is not what another decides for themselves. (FYI, I'm LDS, I don't even drink alcohol.)
Oops, wasn't signed in.
Anyway, I believe laws are for how we conduct ourselves in regards to others. Laws are there to hold people responsible for how their actions effect other people. You can drink, a personal choice. But you can't drink and drive, because your decision effects others, with a possible negative outcome.
Just my personal opinion, I get lots don't agree with me.
I would also recommend "The Poisoners Handbook" for a really good look at prohibition and why it was so catastrophic. A lot of parallels can be drawn in relation to drug laws.
Wouldn't this just make society for dangerous because there's now a huge bunch of high people around? Also, what about all the tax-payers money that will be wasted on putting these guys in jail for the reckless/dangerous things they do, hospital bills and maybe counselling/therapy?
Legalize all types of drugs? Yes! let natural selection do it's work? No! Part of the reason so many drugs are illegal is because they kill people, and I'm not a fan of social cleansing. Besides, anybody who wants to do drugs, does drugs. Legalize drugs to stop the illegal market and help halt our sky high prison rate. Don't do it to prey upon people who have a disease.
I think only weed should be legalized but the laws on other drugs should be lessened. I dint smoke weed never have probably never will I just don't think its dangerous
Drugs should be legal, if you're dumb enough to do drugs, you deserve what you get. No need will miss you since you probably scared everyone with your constant nervous ticks and panic attacks from the meth or marijuana
well not that legalizing all drugs isn't going to make parties more fun...it's just the amount of faces being eaten off due to bath salts could cause a zombie apocalypse
Hell yeah! Great idea! But why stop there? Why don't we just legalize everything? Why don't we just have a full-blown world-wide anarchy? Remove all legal and political instances across the globe. Level all civilization. Leave our future entirely to natural selection. Great idea!
Just in case it wasn't clear, that was sarcastic. Anarchy doesn't work, simply because humans naturally seek together and form laws. It's human nature. Modern civilization would never have formed if anarchy was human nature.
Well that's a shame, I was hoping the world would turn into a cannibalistic hell on earth, where punk rockers ruled the earth and for some reason everybody talks in an awesome English accent.
Just my 2 cents...
I'm a recovering drug addict, and the legality of the drugs I used wouldn't have changed my addiction one bit. Addiction is classified as a disease, and it took a lot of effort and dedication for me (and others I know in recovery) to get clean. Drug addicts are not stupid, un-evolved, sub-humans who need to be weeded out by natural selection. We are (generally) intelligent, loving, productive people who just need some help and support to get our lives back on track. The implication that I deserved to have been weeded out by natural selection is hurtful and demoralizing.
That's just my opinion, however I do respect anyone else's, so long as it is thought out and not hateful.
