Would they end up generating money though? And what about the local hotels, bars etc that will gain significantly from the boost in tourism... I don't know much about this sort of thing so I'm probably wrong, but why would a country host something if it was going to be detrimental to it's economy
They'll make tonnes of money (although keep in mind how much it cost to build those stadiums). But how will they use it? Brazil is doing some very nasty things to its people at the moment, lumping the poor and the criminals together and basically "cleansing" whole areas. It's disgusting.
That said, come on Aussie! It's only Spain and the Netherlands, you can do it!
During the games you see the lights blinking or failing, the day before the World Cup began, train rails led to nowhere, the airports had no stairs, the stadium itself had no seats.
Its "smoke and mirrors" fools no one. Doesn't mean we can really do anything about the country's poverty.
why is brazils poverty being thrown all over the place, south africa has poor places before and after the world cup but no one is talking about that. something new came in to distract from that. every country has some sort of poverty, its a fact, we cant go around judging other countries when we arent even willing to help out our own where ever you're from, instead of critizing brazil go volunteer at a shelter in your own country
To be fair guys, my friend is a student whose in Canada now from Brazil and she says even ordinary Brazilian people think hosting the cup was a stupid idea.
