If this was America, she'd just be dropped off to some old people's home and be forgotten about, forcing her to live her last years in misery. Personally, I think its wrong to throw your parents away like that when they get old, especially after all of the shit your parents put up with while raising you.
I'm American, and I'll be damned if my parents end up in a nursing home. I work in an ER, and we constantly see just how poorly these people are taken care of.
I feel the same way. Everyone always seems to think that a long life is ideal, but forget that quality of life is a factor, as well. I see far too many people that can't do the most basic things for themselves, and just linger on in pain or in a daze from pain meds for years before their body finally falls apart or their family finally decides to sign a DNR.

Here where I live euthanasia is illegal, I don't really get why, I can only see it as a kind of mercy for someone who is suffering, a way to say goodbye with dignity.
