If a game or movie isn't advertised that much we me not even no it existed. ( i.e final fantasy a realm reborn I only saw that advertised once ) c.o.d games are advertised so much that there hard to miss.
The original Modern Warfare was the best, and Modern Warfare 2 was pretty awesome. Hell black ops was pretty good too, but every one of them after was not necessary. Except for making money of course..
Dunno why CoD gets so much flak for making a new game every year. Its not like they don't redesign a bunch and come up with completely different stories/maps/etc. (whether you like the changes more than the previous year is irrelevant, different people like different things and just about every person I know thats played multiple different CoDs have all liked and disliked different ones)
.
Obviously lots of people enjoy them, otherwise it wouldn't be one of the most popular/highest selling games. Why WOULDN'T they come up with a new game as fast as possible to rake in a bunch of cash?
You don't hear complaints about any MMO's getting a new expansion or huge patch multiple times a year. What do those bring? Oh thats right, redesign a bunch/ a new story/ new area (maps) / raid or dungeon. SOOOO much different than CoD.
How many different Mario, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Madden games are there? How many of those were completely game-changing every single time a new one came out?
Flop is a relative term. When Iron Giant came out, animated movies weren't really pulling in hundreds of millions. While the last airbender had a tv show before it was a movie. Just because you think How to Tame your dragon is good, doesn't make it Quality or popular,
Meaning you no offense, it is indeed How To Train Your Dragon. I have been an avid fan for years, having read the available books that were out before the movie, and I think that if I can name twenty-five dragon species in three minutes from the book series I damn well know what the title is.
The last airbender was not a financial success by any means and the iron giant wasn't really a flop (though it wasn't a huge success by any means) by httyd isn't doing bad either
The way I see it it's not the movie industry it's movie audiences. And this is why movies international box offices are soon important to the business.
Your point about quality may be valid but (1) The Iron Giant was an original box office flop because Warner Bros' marketing. It was really epically mismanaged and this was back in 1999 before social media would have pushed the publicity up via word of mouth. With the public and critics it's still ranked pretty high. (2) The Last Airbender was a domestic flop but recouped money on foreign sales. A lot of people I know who went to see it only did so because they liked the animated series. Critically it's seen as a big pile of stinking doggy do-dos. (3) How To Train Your Dragon 2 has already made back it's money and that's before DVD & Blu-ray sales. It also has high critic and public ranking - so I'm not sure what your problem is with this film.
Think about production costs. It's obvious they put about $10 into the last airbender meanwhile they dropped millions into how to train your dragon. A movie is considered a flop if it doesn't break even at minimum.
Remember movies don't break even till they earn double what they cost, as the studio only gets about 50% of ticket sales. And the cost cost of the movi doesn't include cost to market the movie.
Sorry advanced warfare.
