It makes me so sad that someone that have the world so much joy and happiness, felt so bad inside that he would take his own life. He will be sorely missed. One of the brightest lights has gone out. I don't know what else to say but rest in peace Robin.
I feel like there's a German word out there for the circumstance of bringing joy and laughter to the world while simultaneously being unhappy or lonely in your private life.

I get that Robin Williams was a great man, but it really sucks that it takes something like a celebrity's suicide for the news to finally discuss the seriousness of depression and the fact that just because someone is good at hiding it, it doesn't necessarily mean they're okay...Yet the growing amounts of teen and young adult suicides have little to no impact on the news coverage. I understand that the world may view depression in teenagers as a "common teen problem," but it's concerning that no eyebrows are raised on the issue, given how many teens commit suicide due to depression. I am truly baffled that the death of one man is finally being used to raise awareness in the media, yet the rest were put on the back-burner and not even discussed.
Because he, being a prominent figure in society, has been taken. Many teens aren't prominent figures, even within their own communities. Therefore, they only get a local obituary notice. It is sad though.

True. The point I'm trying to make isn't that Robin Williams was shown in the news, yet many other suicide victims were not and that all suicide victims should be shown in the media, because that wouldn't be right. I was watching the news and heard an anchor say something along the lines of "Depression is serious, and suicide is never the answer. If you're ever feeling this way, seek help."
I feel that that statement should be made publicly more often than just when a celebrity commits suicide because plenty of others do it, sadly, more often and nothing is ever said on the news. I feel that the media should put their priorities in order, especially when it comes to the safety to those whom may be or are suicidal.
I tell people to seek professional help all the time on FS, yet they always seem to think that talking about it with random internet strangers, who are often "suicidal" themselves, is the solution. Then again, these are the people that are likely full of shit and just looking for attention.
I think that most people know help is out there, but they're worried the stigma is going to follow them their whole lives, making it difficult to find a job, keep their friends, etc.
