It really sucks that the little boy thinks his only obligation to be nice to people is because his god told him to do it.

Well I think that so long as he's doing something good to help others it doesn't matter what motivates him to do it. God or no God, a good deed is a good deed.

Yeah, totally, doesn't matter what motivates him. Be it his abusive father who will beat him up if he doesn't do it, or just the wish to do good. Same thing pretty much.
