I work at Taco Bell. One time a lady was in the drive thru and asked if we sold Tacos. We thought she was kidding and jokingly said no Taco Bell doesn't serve tacos. She drove away and ended up calling the corporate offices to complain about how a place called Taco Bell doesn't serve tacos. We got in trouble. I've got so many stories of dumb customers. I never knew people could be so dumb until I started working there.
I work To-Go at Chilis and I went to go get an order ready for this lady standing at the counter while another employee cashed her out. I washed my hands (as usual) and then went to open her box to make sure everything was right. We have our broccoli in bags and have to dump it out of the bag into the container. So I did what I do multiples times a day and apparently the lady complained that I was touching her broccoli with my hands.
I work at a chicken place and we serve rotisserie chicken with fries and some guy came in and told me "the sign says you guys sell chicken with fries, so you guys sell fried chicken here?".....I didn't even know how to respond to that.
I used to work retail technology... the people thought that we were thier personal IT and tech support hotline drove me crazy.

Caller: I'm having trouble getting on the internet.
Me: Did you buy the computer from us?
Caller: No, but you sell them. Can't you help me anyway?
Me: Normally, no... but I have time at the moment to assist. Please remember that we can only assist with computers you purchased here. Now, what is your system, OS, IP and describe the problem.
Caller: Gateway, Windows ME, and AOL... Hello are you still there?

I almost hung up on the guy.
I work at a popular restaurant chain in my area. Just yesterday I had a lady call to place a take-out order and tell me the price should be $8.99 for a specific meal, because that's what it said on our "website".
The correct price was $10.29 and it says so on our corporate website. She then spoke with our manager who discovered that the "website" she was referring to was urbanspoon.com (which is a restaurant guide & review website - NOT affiliated with any restaurant). He tried to explain that it has nothing to do with us, but she demanded that we honor that price.
She ended up placing her order anyway, then when she came to pick it up, she tried to run a "short-change scam" on me. *sigh*
Something similar happened at Chilis a couple weeks ago. They called in a To-Go order and placed a pretty big one. I sent the order through and she wanted to add "the new enchiladas for 6.99". I told her the price was 10.99 (or around that price). She said she saw a Chili's commercial and it said we had a special for 6.99. I asked my manager and he said no way. I told her again I'm sorry but we're not able to sell them for that price. She got mad and cancelled her order and hung up on me.
Yes, because every single human being who lives in America, no matter how high their iq is or how hard they worked to get into Harvard or Brown or become a famous scientist, or doctor, or engineer, or whatever, is stupid.
