The creator of the gif has said it is pronounced "jif". This is also a decision I ignore because it is stupid and wrong.

There are rules in English, we just took them from a bunch of other languages so sometimes they contradict each other.

I'm american and i have NEVER heard someone say nootella, we all say Nuh-tella.
