Yep, my understanding is that kangaroos are in some areas a nuisance animal and the size of their courts (herds) have gotten unheathily large. Australians are encouraged to eat them in order to keep the population down.

There are almost 3 times the amount of kangaroos here as there are humans. So yes, people do eat them
