I remember when I was around seven or eight living in Arizona, a mountain lion came wandering around our apartments, my mom locked the doors without knowing I was outside and saw as the mountain lion was approaching me from the back sliding door. It didn't attack me, just stared at me for a few seconds then kept walking

Mountain lions are made out to be a lot more aggressive then they actually are. Most of the time they just watch you for a while and then leave. A park ranger once told me that if you're hiking in an area densely populated by them you can basically know for certain that at least one is going to be following you for a bit far enough off where you can't see or hear them. Not because they want to eat you but because like most cats they are curious and once they get bored with watching you they just leave.
