If you look at the hits in american football compared to rugby u understand why.

In American Rugby many places give you pads. Studies show that hits in American football are significantly harder than that of rugby because if I'm wearing and pads and the next guy is wearing pads I can hit him harder because I know that I'm less likely to hurt him and the same goes for the other guy. Football hits are significantly harder than Rugby.

Not just harder, they're around the torso area with all the organs and vital shit, u can't tackle high in rugby

i don't care if I hurt someone while tackling in rugby if they are goman play the sport they should deal with the pain, and I think that football players are pussies for thinking that the can't handle the same stuff that happens in our game ^o^

Have you ever played American Football? Apparently not. Rugby is about speed and stamina more than actual physical strength. American Football is more about physical strength and how hard you can hit someone.

Yeah and actually I have played American football and I hated it, to much time sitting around and it's just a terrible sport in my opinion

If your sitting around then that means you arent starting. Which also means you arent good enough to start or even play second string

Dont call football players pussies. Im a football player, and the hits Ive taken, given, and seen taken are much harder than anyone without pads has hit me with. If you value rugby more than football, I understand, but dont call football players pussies just because you think rugby players hit harder.

American football is mainly about strength with some stamina due to the fact that there are generally short plays, but in rugby you need stength and stamina because there are fewer turnovers of the ball

ok? the reason American football has so much padding is because studies have shown that plays receive significant brain damage. So yes they have a lot of protection because they need it. Honestly rugby plays probably have a lot of brain damage as well and probably should wear more protection.

studies have also shown that wearing helmets like those in american football can increase damage caused by hits

Rugby tackles are a lot more difficult than an American football tackle is, rugby you need to grab peoples legs but in football you just throw all your body weight into your opponent

This is such a pointless argument. They're two completely different sports with two completely different styles of play. Just because they have similarities doesn't mean they're related. It's apples to oranges.

Aren't there also leather cap "helmets" for rugby?

Optional, and they're not really for hit protection

I'm gonna add to this. First of all metal man is right about the studies of rugby and football. Second, sadlab you are an idiot, shut up you don't know what you are talking about. But anyways I used to work with 2 guys one from Scotland another from England, and they both told me that rugby does have hard hits and there are injuries but they are way stricter on where you can and cannot tackle. They said a big difference ( and I may be getting this confused with a different spot) but in rugby you can't tackle from behind whereas in football it happens all the time. If anyone (besides slabtab) that plays rugby, please correct me if I'm wrong about the tackle from behind.

They exaggerated the football pads so much...

Well if you remember football used to only have leather on your head, until someone realized it wasn't safe
link9090

Well for me, I only wear the shoulder pads, knee pads and thigh pads, and helmet when I play and I haven't gotten injured and I play very often in a game and during practice.

I think you would see more broken bones in rugby but more concussions in football

It really depends on how you play I suppose.

Yeah a forward is more likely to be concussed than a back

However tackles from behind could cause back injuries easier...

Meg, I would like you to watch one of my games and tell me if I'm weak or not... There have been some really hard hits. Also, in football it's not about being able to take hard hits, it's also about being able to get up and take another hit after another after another. Not to mention that there is a lot of running around involved.
