In America ppl mostly just play candy crush while waiting for stuff..actually this is probably not America-specific but I will only speak about what I see ppl doing.

Where the hell in Germany do you live?! I live in Germany and we don't have this! I didn't know this excisted. And now I'm sad :(

yes, we do. at least in Nordrhein-Westfahlen, Schleswig-Holstein and Bayern. In NRW we even have a Bücherbus (engl.: book bus, and yes this is exactly what you think it is)
