I'm sure they just drill oil somewhere else, and a truck delivers it to the station where it is put in the pumps.

The pumps are too small to drill anyway.

It was a joke, indeed. Allegedly, back in the 1950s some little ole lady asked that question to a constructor whose crew was in the process of erecting a petrol station. :-)
