i'm in Melbourne, I've seen these, i appreciate the work they do, but they forget the reason they became ambulance officers, to help and save people, not for the money
Those demanding for higher minimum wage don't understand how inflation works.

Neither do the people in charge of minimum wage. Minimum wage is supposed to be the lowest amount of money that people can live on to a certain degree of comfort. I have no link on hand, but you can easily find a large number of studies that show a ludacris increase in the cost of living, yet barely any increase in minimum wage.
True, raising minimum wage would just make inflation worse, but it is already so bad that minimum wage cannot support its original function. If you want an example, the guy who made Supersize Me (the documentary about eating only McDonald's for 30 days) did a TV show where he would do certain challenges like Supersize Me for 30 days. He did one with his fiance for living on minimum wage, and it is really eye-opening.
But minimum wage didn't raise at the same rate a lot of other stuff did with inflation.
Though, I heard originally McDonalds ( and jobs like that ) were originally for teens but now the economy is fucked so you have adults trying to support a family on what is supposed to be a salary for a teen.
Exactly what guest said jobs such as fast food are meant for teens, young adults, and the elderly for helping increase the money they have so that they have job experience. You aren't supposed to make Mcdonalds your career but use it as a starting point for your future work.
Whose fault is it for McDonalds becoming a career for people who didn't further themselves to put them in a position for a better career? Not McDonalds...
Metalman wasn't saying it was their fault. McDonalds jobs were INTENDED to be just for ( as they said ) teens, young adults, and the elderly. But because of the current state of the economy and job market many adults are forced into those jobs as they can't afford an education or find a career. The blame isn't being put on the individuals but rather the people who are to blame for the economic state.

I feel the need to add that inflation has been at a constant rate 4.2% per year with changes in minimum wage nowhere near as high.
"ludacris"
Yeah, I'm gonna be "that" guy, because this is honestly one of the dumbest debates I've ever heard, and it's been done to death.
Take an Econ class, kiddos.
Those demanding minimum wage want to make enough to support their families and not work 2-3 jobs to do so. Plus emts get healthcare benefits. The $15 will increase the pay to emt workers who will appreciate it. It's not about the type of work but making enough to survive and worrying about living pay check to pay check.
I feel like if you are trying to support a family you would be at least trying really hard to get a job that offers more than the minimum wage. There is no way you can support a family on absolute minimum wage (at least a family with a kid and not working a ridiculous amount of hours) I see your point though.
Oh yes is that sometimes people forget that getting a well paying job is the easiest thing in the world and that if they really wanted to support a family they should get a good job in a fast growing population where there are barely any jobs, sarcasm. On a serious note, people who work at mcdonalds either need job experience or can't get a job anywhere else. Also before anyone says "oh but I they can't get a job anywhere else it means they didn't study and probably don't deserve a better job" or something like that, I know this man, he is very talented who wanted to be an artist, he has so many skills and probably he most talented person I know, but guess where he works ,because all the jobs he wants are not available, yep McDonalds, which is really a waste of talent but he has nowhere else to go.
Gspike may have said it insensitively, but there's a difference between 'trying really hard' and succeeding. People can try really really hard to get a good job, but that doesn't mean they will, plus they probably don't have a lot of time to devote to job hunting between working enough hours to support their family and taking care of their family. There are a lot of jobs that don't offer more than minimum wage, and a lot of people don't have anything better available to them.
It's probably only spit on if you continue to spew the shit from your mouth to people making that food for you.
You can't want them making your food then shit on them as people and expect to be taken seriously.

If anyone cares.
Take note that there can be a lot of down time, you're not always getting calls, and getting them placed in a hospital can take awhile. In the ER I work in, depending on how backed up we are, they can sometimes be waiting in the hallway with a patient for a couple hours or more.
Well
1. They could still be in school trying to pay enormous tuition debts
2. I know people who have graduated and can't find a real job because there are none
3. They didn't go to school because of the giant tuition and would rather have had a job than debt
I am not stating whether I'm for or against this, but what is with the inherent assumption that all minimum wage jobs are menial food industry type labor, and the employees of minimum wage jobs are uneducated lazy bums?
I know public school teachers that are paid 4x the amount of a preschool teacher, with the same degree....

If a large business owner is forced to raise the wage of the workers, they're not going to take money out of their own huge pockets. They'll just lay off workers to be able to pay the others more. Now instead of everyone making more money, there's a handful making more and a handful now not making any at all. I don't know how to solve the issue, but raising it will do nothing.
Why was this down voted? Everyone should get fair pay. EMTs should definitely make more, but if we're going to eat out, someone has to be doing that job, and they shouldn't get paid like crap just because it happens to be them.
I believe we should make what we deserve. More serious and tougher jobs deserve a higher pay check. Not where the CEO gets everything, but a better union
Here's an idea: Give the power of deciding minimum wage to the states so that each state can set the min to the cost of living in that state because, shocker, the cost of living in each state is different! It can even differ from city to city sometimes.
