I'm not personally religious, but I agree. I think it'd be more idealistic if religion had never existed perhaps? Then religious wars wouldn't have existed, and there'd be no arguing about it. Getting rid of it now wouldn't work, as it is necessary to have faith in this society, and we would have evolved differently without it. But yeah, the people who force their religions are the ones who start the fights. Not good.
Yeah, no doubt he also wrote "Imagine no possessions" while sitting in his multi-million dollar mansion.
As for "Living life in peace", that would be good news for Yoko and his first wife Cynthia who he admitted to beating the crap out of. Gee, it seems our hippy dippy peaceful loving guru was actually a violent a-hole.
Then there's the way which he treated his son Julian, who admitted that Paul McCartney was more of a father to him than Lennon was.
Finally, despite singing “imagine no religion”, he was obsessed with every spiritual and New Age fad that came his way, including Hindu meditation, the I-Ching, and astrology of all kinds.
Simply put, he was a hypocrite, so please stop being ignorant and putting him on a pedestal.
Okay, Guest, first of all the house he had at the time was a small apartment in New York, not a multi million dollar mansion. He actually donated huge sums of his money to charity. Also while he did in fact beat his wives (which Im not condoning in any way it's horrifying and violence is completely and utterly wrong) shortly before writing this song he was reading about women's rights and such and through this saw the error of his ways and (though again I realise this doesn't make it any better) apologiesed profusely to both women. He then wrote a song about women's rights because of this. Now about religeon. John was, it goes without saying, an extremely spiritual person but, for example the Hindu meditation, this was not a religeon but a practice that helped him obtain peace of mind. John Lennon was a beautiful, artistic, amazing human being and this song has been a peace anthem for generations. Just.....live life in peace
Forced peace is not peace. It's obeying out of fear while you know that it's not right, and it's driving you mad.
Besides, why the downvotes? Religious wars are basically what shaped the human history, and I'm not blaming religion or religious people in any way for any of it!
I don't know about the downvotes, nothing to do with me.
Peace is the absence of conflict. If everyone who would go to war with you is dead, then there is peace. I never said it was a good peace.
Fair enough, if you go by the strict definition of peace. In my opinion it's something deeper than that, like a state of mind, but then again, it's what I feel and emotions are too complex to write in a dictionary, so your definition is probably more precise.
Not sure if better, but definitely more naïve. Having good ideas is one thing but being realistic about them is another. I hope one day I'll be able to do both. Until then, I'm just another dreamer, I guess.
guys, it's not saying religion is bad. it's saying that imagine a world where it never existed and see what you think. I'm sure we'd still find ways to be at eachover's throats either way- but it's just saying that there's a POSSIBILITY that we'd be better off if it had never existed. I believe in God and all that, but even I can see that there's even the smallest possibility that we'd be more peaceful if we didn't have religions. Anyway, it's not saying "religion is the cause of world hate- get rid of it." it's saying, "maybe we could be happier, peaceful people if religion didn't get caught up in the mix." the IMAGINE is a key word in this.
It is defiantly not that simple just because you take away religion doesn't mean you can take away gender, race, or other peoples differences. I am Muslim and I too wish for that.... but haters are gonna hate for no reason sometimes and forever!!! Its human nature!
How about we believe in religion as long as we don't believe we are better than others and not try to kill others. Like, all Christians, Muslims, Jews, ect being peaceful and not trying to kill each other
Hell, a lot of that isn't even good or right.

You shouldn't change just to better fit a brutal reality. The world needs more dreamers.
