The Alaska one I ask a lot when asking trivia questions to friends, but I get a lot of argument on the Eastern portion. Alaska is only the furthest east if you consider the international dateline (or 180 degrees longitude) the dividing line of the earth, which in reality is an arbitrary dividing line (created by Europeans). Based on a compass, Maine is the furthest East.
Something else: Norway, which is opposite Finland, also touches Russia, because Norway goes over Sweden and Finland and touches Russia. So Norway is separated from North Korea by one country, too.
