Well technically, if they put these so called 'solar panels' in the middle of a super sunny, vacant place, i don't know like a desert, that wouldn't be much of a problem.
Those squares are frocking huge spaces. They don't look big compared to the rest of the world but they're actually huge. The time it would take to accomplish this would be years. But I agree that it probably would be worth it to do. Renewable energy all the way. (Just not in the form of fricking priuses)
Somebody did a whole rebuttal of this idea including the fact that the price and energy (building millions of miles of electric cables, etc) of shipping all that energy to gazillion other countries would be more than the energy actually produced
Doing it all in the same place like that would most likely not work out agreed, but doing a few smaller ones around the globe would significantly reduce the number of wires needed.
Suddenly, warlords and cartels are hijacking the power for themselves, the region's temperature increased by a lot, and quinillions of dollars are being paid to the host country for the right to use the land.
But none of it matters because soon, someone will visit it, mix a few chemicals and one "ALLAHU AKBA" later, a few explosions, and none of it matters.
It doesn't work that way. It just doesn't. You can't just "mix a few chemicals" and blow up the whole place. It would be one of the most heavily defended places on earth. No one would be able to come close without them knowing
