nope, when Japanese came, French (once had us as their colony) left, and after the WWII, we kicked ass Japanese. then US came, we went ọn the war again. At least, that what I learned in history class.
According to my US history teacher, Vietnam won against the US for the same reason the American Revolution was won: they were wars of attrition. There's a home field advantage versus firepower. If you know the land and how to use it to your advantage, you can wear down the enemy over time
Yep, we stepped in to help when France was getting beat up. The police action allowed only a trickle of manpower and equipment. If all out war had been declared overwhelming force could have been employed. The Vietnamese losses would have been (even more) staggering, US losses would have been less and we would have still pulled out leaving a mess in an unstable region.
