Just goes to show you should never read the actual story if you like the Disney version. Peter Pan is similarly horrible for those who grew up with the Disney version.

Peter Pan was a psychopath that would kill lost boys if they failed to follow his guidelines. Fairies live for about 3 weeks tops and Peter forgot tinker bell just as fast as he found her. Peter being partly a creature of magic was able to live by consuming food he imagined (like in Hook) however the lost boys were completely normal and as such either starved for however long Peter wanted to play that game or snuck in real food and hoped he didn't catch them because Peter's punishments were severe.
