Since the beginning of time this has been true. When have people not been segregating and classifying themselves? Although it is wrong, it will not simply go away.
SO TRUE! get rid of all the basis and the social norm. get rid of all the classes and division. lets just live together as people. nothing more. no one more or less then the other.
Also wealth itself has never classified anyone. It is only the love of money that does that. People who identify as poor, after all, are also classifying themselves. It's not having wealth that separates us -- we are only separated because we have come top believe that that is an adequate basis for separation.
I see what you're getting at, but I think at least in our society, wealth impacts how one is treated by other people and organizations, which does separate us. Also, you don't have to identify as poor to be treated like you are.
Right. It's not the money itself that separates us, it's just us separating ourselves because we've taught ourselves that money is actually that important. That is a popular myth that is believed by people at the bottom of the ladder as well as those at the top.
Re "Identify as poor:" Look at most lottery winners...they're back where they started (or worse!) after a few years. They blow most or all of the money. So, there actually are people who are "destined to be poor" because of their bad decision making and not only because of circumstance. I see coworkers borrow from a 401k for a vacation or whatever, so even professional people who should have a decent nest egg have little because what they spend their money on (or withdraw or borrow to spend).
Race is supposed to separate us. It's a bad thing to perpetuate the idea that all humans are the same. We should be teaching that all humans are human, but we're all different and shouldn't be looked at as the same. Of course, we should all get respectful and just treatment, but we shouldn't be telling children that a black person is the same as a white is the same as an asian because the child sees the glaringly obvious and thinks "the hell they're the same, they're obviously different".
Religion I have addressed in a previous comment two months ago.
We have politics because of the other three. Because of our different classes, we each want something different. Of course, it would be nice if everyone got what they wanted as soon as they wanted it, but that can't happen so we have politics (and thus a democratic government) so that the masses can ask for and decide on things themselves.
Wealth is something the most recent guest has addressed in what I feel is a very good way.
