I just went to a girls ask guys dance. I happened to ask one of the socially awkward kids to give them a chance, hoping they'd warm up and dance after all. I had a lousy evening because they kept saying "I can't dance," so I never got to slow dance with him or swing dance with him and both of us had to just stand around. I ended up dancing with other guys because he was being boring, but even though he couldn't dance he wasn't even willing to give it what he's got. I can't dance either, but I danced the night away because nobody really cares! To all the men out there-- ffs, dance. You will make more people uncomfortable by not dancing than by dancing. Please, please, PLEASE realize that.
Sorry, but I'm an asshole. I *won't* dance.

Dude. I absolutely suck at dancing. But once I get comfortable I get into it and have fun. Even though I look like a recently stepped on cockroach in its last painful moments of life, I have a good time and people laugh as well. But don't do it in front of people you never met or seen before, you might get embarrassed and kicked out of the dancing circle
Ok gents, here's the plan:
When she inevitably asks you to go dancing, say yes, no big deal.
Then, when you get out on the floor with her, pull out the craziest, most awkward retarted outlandish moves you can muster. Be oblivious to everyone staring and laughing. Eventually, she will suggest drinks.
Next Friday comes along and natually you ask her if she wants to go dancing again. "Nooo, I just want to stay in tonight". Problem solved. :]
Perfect! As a girl, I can say that would probably either work really well, or, depending on who she is, she might enjoy your show and want to go dancing with you again.
That is possible, especially if the man danced too closely to the beat the first time. Suggested contingencies would be: "Oh honey, you're so pretty I just want you all to myself tonight."
"I need to have a ton of inspiration for that kind of performance. With all the other outlets I have, I'm just not feeling it." And finally, "Don't you have enough memes and gifs of me from the last time?"

I love to dance. I'm a dude, and I'll break into dance anytime I hear a good song. I know that people think I'm bad at it, and that they try to get me to dance just so that they can snigger at me, but I just don't care. I will dance my heart out, no matter what anyone says. And if someone asks me to dance? Of course I'll say yes! I don't get how people can just give that excuse. People tell me that I can't dance, but it isn't stopping me. So why should you telling that to yourself stop you? I honestly didn't even consider this sort of thing ever happening until I came across this post, because I always thought people *would* dance. And they should! I don't get why they don't. Boys, just dance, no matter what the world tells you. It's worth it, believe me :)
*slow clap* *clap gets louder* *thunderous clap* *standing ovation* *awkward silence when I look around and realize I'm alone but heck that was worth it*

Actually, once I saw a play (I'm a drama geek) which I thought was so good I stood up and gave a standing ovation but when the lights went on everyone else was sitting so I awkwardly sat down. So I guess we have something in common
I understand this advice, really. However, ladies, if your guy isn't comfortable dancing in a crowded place, please start off at home. Grab him and whirl around the living room or something. It's not the dancing in public that's scary, it's learning to dance in public that's mortifying.
