Of course there is, but this is more special and emotional than that. Knowing that everyone worked so hard to help get her message to her dad is even more meaningful than a simple message.
but that's the point!!! dragging a fuckton of cars in the desert just to spell out a few letters isn't minor! it's huge! it's gigantic! a minor gesture that would definitelly mean a lot to the girl's dad would be a simple message sent the ordinary way. we might think of it as trivial but the dad would probably get all mushy and shit. do you see the difference? this thing they did is the other way around! we're getting all thrilled over it but the dad, he probably wouldn't care much if it was substituted by a simple message because it's the thought that counts, the image of his daughter missing him so much, she needed to tell him she loves him, etc.
Well, for one, they caused quite some pollution with all those cars, not to mention they went about and disturbed all the flora and fauna on that large area. And why? Because a nice gesture isn't a nice gesture unless it's theatrical and overdone. That is precisely what I'm not happy about it. I have no idea why are you all sour and bitter because of my opinion, it's not like you expected everybody to unanimously tear up and sob at this piece of news or did you?
We're overly cynical because you're overly cynical. Everyone has differing opinions and are entitled to them. 11 cars don't produce that much pollution at all.

Sidenote: what the hell is flora and fauna?

And I'm sure her father appreciates the effort, as I bet that cost less than whatever the regular method would have been.
