How do they get the fuel lines to the helicopters? Does someone just swing to the helicopter, click it onto the fuel port and climb into the helicopter?
The plane stays level as fuck while the two helicopters slowly maneuver themselves to the line that will connect the the gas tanks opening where the fueling process begins.
This is a type of in flight refueling called probe and drogue. The fueling plane plays out a hose that has a droguechute at the end of it. See the white ring? That's it.
The long straight part sticking out at the fron of the chopper is the boom. The pilot of the fueled plane/helicopter must steer to aim the boom on their craft at the ring.
When they lock together, fuel can be pumped over. This type of fueling relies entirely on the skill of the pilot flying the craft that needs fuel.
.
The other type is called boom and receptacle. This is the one that most people might be familiar with. Both planes must hold a steady position and the boom is guided manually by one of the crew on the fueler.
