When you eat out, this is true. But making healthy food at home is probably the cheapest food available. Bananas, apples, carrots, canned veggies, rice, beans--- all super cheap. Splurge a little bit to add in a bit of lean protein. But honestly, when I look at my grocery bill, the most expensive things by far are the processed junk foods.
Yessssss thank you! I try to buy organic meat and it's expensive so I have my tricks....one of them is to by many veggies and add to protein which I had cut in thinner portions to use a n different meals. Also checking different stores for prices.
This is only sort of true. Some healthy foods like beans and rice are actually super cheap. But healthier meat is almost always more expensive than comparable processed meat, and boxed pasta is one of the cheapest options available. And living in mac and cheese on ramen is very unhealthy, but also very inexpensive.
Also, due to city layouts the poor in cities often have a much easier time getting to McDonald's than getting to a grocery store. And that's besides the fact that keeping or cooking food isn't always an option at all.
It's often difficult to get enough protein in your diet without meat, especially on a budget. Totally doable, just can be difficult. And it definitely requires an understanding of nutrition, something not everyone has. In fact, lack of education in many things, including nutrition, is particularly common in impoverished areas.
Totally! I tried to be vegetarian once in the past and quit after two days when my blood pressure dropped because I knew nothing. I feel like I can do it now because I'm more informed and I like to do my own things from scratch (I stay away from the soy meat substitution processed stuff) to be healthy (vegetarian or vegan is not necessarily healthier sometimes). I have been feeling great but I'm still learning!
I'm really glad you had the sense to stop before you became seriously ill.
You should be aware that a diet with a present but limited amount of meat may be a good option also. If you are mindful and knowledgeable you can get all the nutrients you need without meat, but sometimes a little meat can be a good way to help get certain things into your body.
Also, are you vegetarian or vegan? Pescatarian is also an option.
I am neither but sometimes I eat foods typically thought of as "vegetarian" or "vegan" because (some of them) are healthy and I like them.
Right now vegetarian. I started cutting meat to be healthier and slowly lost the taste for it. Now it is hard for me to think about eating meat again 1. Because of animals and 2. Now it affects my stomach. I was a pescatarian for a while. I havent had fish in a while though. Lately i might have fish like one every 3 months or so (has just worked out like that) so if a feel like I need to or if there is not a better or healthy option. I say I'm vegetarian cuz it is easier than explaining all of this hehe. I have to say the new diet has helped a lot with my skin (used to have bad acne) and digestive issues, and even pms. For now trying my best. Like you sometimes and maybe most of the time I eat vegan w/o even planning it because I like it. Done right, it is good. For health and the planet is good to cut back some you now so good for you too! I love it and some people i think could cut a little too if they were more open minded
